Got a call from my buddy who went to pick n pull who said that there was an 88 cherokee with front two hooks, t-case skid, gas tank skid, and a 119,000 miles on it. Then he said that there was a D44. So i hauled my tools and my ass as fast as i could, ripped the D44 out and sutffed it in the back of my jeep for 140 bucks. Goodbye 96 8.25, hello D44. I plan on obivously building it up which include stuffing 4.56s, a detroit, and 33 splined shafts. im excited and real happy to find this deal. Im gonna go reasearch and learn everything i can about XJ 44s.

Awesome Nick. You found the needle in the haystack, contrast bro. Although that 8.25 isn't the much far off from a 44, the 44 is better and has tons of potential :)

You got it.

You're lazy, and I'm in physical therapy after this past weekend. I think I'll take lazy next time.

It should be cheaper to sell it to someone for $350-400 and then buy a locked and loaded XJ 44 from Chris or Capt. 33 spline shafts are nice if building it from scratch, but 30 spline shafts will hold well and then you can use TJ dana 44 shafts as spares. If you break a 33 spline shaft, which is unlikely you will be without a spare. I run 35 spline 9" shafts and don't think I could break a rear shaft if I tried. Thinking back, I would probably have been o.k. with keeping the stock 31 spline shafts and would have had 2 sets of shafts and plenty to chose from at pnp. Good luck Nick, you have a good axle to work with.

Yea, i could troy. I would rather build it myself, buying a used harbor freight press, bearing splitter kit and other miscellaneous tools for my 8.25 and 30, i wanna use those tools and make them worth what i payed. Besides, i enjoyed rebuilding em...kinda. I just gotta decide how "built" im goin to go. Somethin is making me wanna go with chromeoly 33 splined shafts, but i know i dont need em. hmmm....we'll see

Sounds good, glad you found that axle Nick. If you have the tools and knowledge than go for it, but it's hard to beat $150/axle for Crash to set up the gears and locker for you. Don't quote me on that price, but that's what I thought I remember.

I snagged 2 XJ dana 44s from the South Sac pnp and am pretty sure I narrowly missed a few more under 87' XJ I saw without rear axles. They are out there, just check your pnps every month or so. Can you run power tools at pnp? Can you borrow their batteries? Just wondering, I see lots of batteries at the registers and didn't think you could use them. It was would be nice to run power tools to make extractions easier/quicker.

you can bring neumatic tools out there, but then you need a generator and a compressor or a 110v tool set.

You can NOT bring a generator out there and NO car batterys.

But you can bring an Air tank with neumatic tools :)

I myself have not done this yet but Witt was telling me how the last time he was there he was running a impact wrench to pull parts and everyone was comming by asking if they could borrow it.

Yeah, people there are real vultures and ask to borrow stuff quite often if you have nice stuff. Don't leave your tools for 1 second or they can be stolen. I had a breaker bar and a few other small tools stolen 1 time when I walked away for a couple minutes. PNP is a good place for getting XJ parts, but is does draw the low lifes of society as well.

bring a generator. I saw a few guys out there with one a few weeks ago. I am going out Saturday so I will ask the counter people. But they usually don't understand me speaking English and all (central valley, can I have a cervesa?)

This is still American isn't it? I know I sometimes feel like I'm in a foreign country with people speaking anything but English especially at pnp or other wrecking yards, lots of Russian/Ukrainians here in Sac.
