I measuring a d44 hp and d60 to put under the XJ. I measured the d30 at 61" wms to wms. Does this sound right? The d44, from a F250 measures ~68.5, while the rear from the same truck measures only ~66. Anyone know if/why they are not the same? I guess it doesn't really matter, I am cutting them both down to 61 anyway. Just curious.
Thanks.

Stock XJ wms-wms width is 60.5". The reason for a narrower rear axle is to reduce turning radius, so when you cut your axles down, keep that in mind. Most rears are around 2"-3" narrower than the front.

I didn't know that. I don't have the stock rear axle in my XJ, so I can't measure it. From your info, it should be 57.5 to 58.5 wms to wms, right?
Thanks.
