I think its a conspiracy that must be it....maybe Warn executives have naked pictures of the Daimler Chrysler execs covorting with their transgender lovers :gag:
oh yeah - if you're really against giving Warn any money, your best bet is to swap in a Ford dana 44. That's what I'd do (if I was smart and had more $$$) but, being a poor knuckleheaded web-wheeler, I'll soon be polishing the turdy with some used Warn and psuedo hi-steer stuff.

The only reasons I can think of for using warn hus are to increase mileage, eliminate front driveline vibes, or allow you to run a spool or lincoln locker. Automatic lockers don't behave all that badly in front. Try running the locker first and see if you need the hubs, otherwise you are just making another weak spot in your drivetrain.

Naw, you can run the lockers without the hubs without too many problems. Most lockers will not lock up unless you are sending power to the axle, so keep it in 2wd on the street and you're fine.

I Was Told That Sence The Front Axel Does Not Disconect A Detroit Locker Would Send Me Off The RoadWho told you that? If it was somebody from a shop, never go back - they're either morons or trying to sell you something that you don't really "need".
I've been running a locker in my non-disco d30 since 1994, prolly 100,000 miles and it hasn't run me off the road yet. That said, part of my planned turd polishing includes a Warn hub conversion, but I'm getting it used/cheap.
edit: The locker does click and pop, even in 2wd, when you make tight turns on pavement like when making a u-turn. But it's livable.

Whats witht he capitals on every word, hehe.ok ok
i have run a locked up dana 30 on the street with out an issue.if you don't have it in 4 wheel then the front will not truely lock.a detroit only locks under power.now in the dirt might be a different story you might notice some push from the front end while locked in 4 wheel but your in the dirt so who cares.

A Detroit Locker is an automatic locker. Therefore it only locks when tourque is applied.

Just Get The Ford Bronco Axle That Goes Along With THe Ford Bronco Style Hubs And Install The Whole Thing In You 1994 Xj.
Or just get a detroit and run it as it is: I've had mine in for over a year and haven't had any problems with it on the street in 2wd.

About 10 years ago, a company called 4 to 1 (also made 4:1 low range kits)started using modified Bronco locking hubs, with drilled out Unit bearing hubs, spacers, and CJ outer stubs to get the hubs to fit XJ/YJ's.
I don't remember if they sold the idea off, or just stopped making them when Warn came out with their kit.
The tough part is probably modifing the Bronco hubs to take the bigger input gear, since the Bronco II stubs were teeny-tiny.

I to am interested in the idea. I dont need ultimate strength, just cheep. I started to look nto this last spring, then droped the ball.
From what I have discovered, Rangers, & Bronco II used d28 or d35, Explorer d35. auto or manual hubs. there are 2 different spline counts 21 & 27 for stub shafts (I think), doesn't mater which axle, change was about 1990. All used 297/760 u-joints, requireing later inner axleshafts. Spindles are different depending on year and auto or manual hub
It appears that CJ spindles might work with the wheel bearings, hubs, and rotors for ford.
the problem appears to be finding a spindle that bolts up to the d30 knuckle, then get the components for that (stub shaft, bearings, etc.).
I have not done any measuring of components yet. My information is from Dana and Napa catalogs.
If you are still interested acurate measurements of spindles apeares to be the starting point.

If you don't want to give Warn your hard earned dollars, MileMarker makes a conversion as well:

Since you are doing it to run a front locker, there is another option. Have you considered a disconnect front axle, using a posi-lock manual disconnect control? Should be a lot cheaper than the Warn hub kit. My disconnect axle is doing great (on my 1990), and gives a smoother drive train than the non-disconnect setup on my 2001.
