I don't see what the big deal is, this is the sierra chapter and has to deal with things in the Sierra chapter area.

The big deal is that some people chose to abuse the privelidge of posting items for sale in the forum. I was one of the many who complained about half the threads on the front page of the Sierra chapter forum were items for sale. This forum is for members to discuss club business, get to know one another and ask or offer help for others in the area. We have a dedicated for sale forum that can be used effectively if you take the time to learn how to use it.

Take some time to get to know the chapter rules and don't get mad when they are enforced.

I know what you mean, but when you create a ad in the for sale section, you list your zip code and then people who are viewing the for sale section see how far their zip code is from yours. It's a real nice feature. It does however make it a little harder to sell things locally because people who might buy your items, but aren't whole heartedly looking for it through all the for sale items, will not see it as easily as it being in the chapter.

I'd like to suggest adding folders to the Chapters like a for sale folder, runs, land issues, misc, etc. That way the people selling stuff can list it there and have it viewed by all that visit the chapter if they go into that folder.

On the flip side I know how the Chapter has become littered with for sale items and other stuff. If a thread is interesting and gets responded to, it will stay on the top of the page.

Can we vote on having topic folders within the Chapter, including a for sale folder?

I know that not every person has a Chapter where they live so the Main For Sale section still will be used and should be by people even if they can just post in the Chapter, that is if they don't mind on shipping. I have had good luck with listing items for sale in the Chapter section before this was considered a problem and mixed results listing only in the For Sale section. I served a 1 month Time Out for this infringment and will not be listing for sale items in the chapter anymore.

The Chapter should be and is for Chapter business and for sale items are related to the chapter; making it possible for people to sell stuff locally and giving their Chapter bros 1st dibs on items before you have to box an item, pay for shipping etc.

I see both sides to the argument and suggest folders within the Chapter so as people who don't want to buy anything don't have to look at the items unless they go into the folder and for people selling locally go give their Chapter members 1st dibs on items.

Put it in the Forsale Forum under the heading "LOCAL" then have an area for each chapter.

While you bring up some good points Troy, you have yet to convince me of how an individual selling an item is chapter business? How does a thread about 4 sets of Lebaron hood vents for sale, which the guy is selling for a profit, benefit the chapter? How is that "hooking up your chapter bro's?" What you and others are posting could be considered a commercial post, which is only allowed in one forum, period. Maybe if the chapter got a portion of the money recieved(similar to ebay) then I would consider it being chapter business. Until then, this should be bought up to the national BOD if you are serious about changing all the chapter forums.

I wasn't planning on selling Lebaron hood vents to anyone in the Chapter. You can just as easily get them from the great pnps we have here in Northern California. I provide these to people who don't have nice yards like us around them and/or don't have the time to look high and low for them. By the time I ship them, buy them etc etc. my profit is very small like $10/pair or so. $35-40/pair shipped is the going rate for them and many people, other than myself have listed them for this and sold them very quickly.

By my making it known what $ the vents go for and where you can find them etc etc is chapter business (I'm giving myself some competition). These vents are also getting harder and harder to find, they are from early to mid 80's Chrysler Lebaron Turbo cars, not all Chrysler Lebarons had them.

When I said hooking people up is providing them parts at discounted prices. For example, selling a complete set of axles locked and loaded ready to bolt in at a reduced price compared to building them yourselves etc--a few local Chapter members have these deals by the way, check the For Sale section :-). Also another member had a smoking deal on a 99' XJ that many Chapter members might have missed.

These are deals many people can take advantage of and our close proximity makes this an even better deal. While I like the zip code feature in the For Sale section, I think that we should still be able to list an item for sale in the Chapter and providing folder for runs, for sale items, sticky's, etc etc is a good feature we should explore.

Troy, your postings were the reason for the rules to be what they are right now. Maybe if you practiced some restraint in yourself and your needless posting, this wouldn't even be an issue.

Sorry...but a for sale section with the chapter, as well other folders would help out alot. That's all I'm going to say about this. The new zip code feature in the For Sale section helps as well.

I'll bite.

When surfing the for sale section I look 1st at the distance, would much rather deal with someone within driving distance than across the country then I look at the item/goods.

I believe that post of the type "91 XJ on Craigslist in SF" are ok on the chapter forum, general "I have axles, doors, glass, engines, vents, etc for sale" need to go in the for sale item.

I have purchased 4 items through the site, all on the for sale forum. 3 went well (all Sierra) one didn't go so well, but the guy on the east coast came through and returned my check vice the parts.

That's my peace,
I am off to pick-n-pull for a battery tray & hold down

How about this, if a person posts something in the new Sierra chapter "For Sale Folder", a 5% donation must be given to NAXJA as a service charge payable through paypal or sent to the chapter Pres to be held until a Sierra Chapter event. At this point the monies can be spent for raffle prizes or maybe just food for a BBQ.

Nothing happens until you have the BOD's approval. To do that you either can join or find a current member to bring up this change in the member section for discussion.

Anything said here in the Chapter forums won't change anything.

One of the features of the new classified section is to search by ZIP code.

If everyone would start using the classifieds to sell stuff and not chapter forums, it would get used more, by everyone!

Jes has determined to have zero tolerance in this forum and that is his choice and the National BOD will back him up on his decision.

hinkley

BTW, "Got something to sell" thread is now a sticky here, so it is up top for all to see.

Really? I can get it to SHOW the distance from me of an item, but I can't figure out how to SEARCH or SORT by distance. I am dumb, but I can usually figure these types of things out.

The search button I clicked on has no "distance" option, and I didn't see any such thing on the page.

I agree with both of you I relly liked posting my junk for sale here, only here, and not in the For Sale section, no shipping people would come pick up and it worked our just fine.

But then ONE person thought it would be ok to abuse it, and the Sierra Chapter looked like one persons "For Sale" section.

I understand why it is this way now, I don't like it, but it is better then having a Sierra Chapter look like all we do is sell stuff. One person killed it for all of us, some people just have no restraint, and as we all know some people are just stupid.

Maybe not "searchable" but,

I just enter my Zip code, "hit go" and the miles to the all the part shows up!

Try it you might like it. BTW, if it is like under a 100 miles it most likely is in your chapter area. :D
