i have a 87 MJ 4cyl with a ax-4 tranny, 231 T/case, my question is can i just swap in a ax-15 with out having to change anything else.

reason for this swap is to get rid of the 4 speed and have it be geard lower because of the 5 speed to run 31" tires and 4:10

thanks for the help
Erich

An AX5 would be more of a bolt on, but weaker than the AX-15.
I don't know about tranny length's, so I can't tell you if AX-4 driveshafts would work with an AX-5.

You can use an AX-15, but you need a bellhousing from a AMC 2.5" Dodge Dakota.
There's a couple long threads about that on Pirate.

The AX-15 input shaft is larger and will require a different clutch plate and a different release bearing.

It's much more cost effective to swap to an AX-5 unless someone already gave you the AX-15. Even then it might be more cost effective to buy an AX-5.
