Not sure on the Rustys, but the RE's will give you 7" after it settles, probally 8.5" to 9" to begin with.

depends on if you're running a heavy bumper, winch, etc

many people report RE heights to come out a bit taller than advertised. if you're really worried about going too high, just get the size smaller and use coil spacers.

na, the coils dont give that much lift, stock bumper 4.5" springs gave me 5", put on 60 lb bumper and winch, it bairly moved

Ask your favorite coil manufacturers what the static height of the coil is and what the spring rate is. Measure the weight of the front of your jeep and calculate your ride height.

Why is it that this information is not advertised by RE or rusty's? I wonder if they even know what it is?

whoever says that the RE 7" will give you 8.5-9" is lying. they will give you 7" with no winch and no aftermarket bumper. they are actually the same front coils as a TJ. running a BPI winch bumper and XD9000i winch, i settle in at about 6". i had to add a .75 coil spacer to bring it back to 7"

Rusty's has their spring rates listed right on their FAQ page:

http://www.rustysoffroad.com/faqs_2005.html

And RE's are common knowledge if you search around for them.

Its really not nice to call people a liar, my RE 5.5 is setting a 6" right now with an ARB Bullbar up front. RE is almost Always higher than the advertised lift. If/when the coils settle, that is the lift you get(what is advertised).

I guess I should keep more up to date on my info. It is wonderful to see that they now understand that info and even advertise it!!

Thanks for the correction.

I'm using a RE 4.5 ZJ coil, and a spacer, and I got right at 7" even with a heavy front bumper and winch.

No problem, I know what you mean. You'd think this would be the first thing they advertise since that's a lot more useful (and accurate) than their "inches of lift" number.

the 5.5 lift comes with ZJ coils not TJ coils like the XJ 7.5" coils. what i'm saying is that the ZJ coils are stiffer than the TJ, thus actually it does give you more than the advertised lift. but with the TJ coils being the same as the XJ coils, thats a different story. you're talking about a completely different coil. i've had the RE 4.5 and it settled to 4" without a winch, and the 7.5 coils settled to about 6.5 with a winch.

Damn must be one heavy winch! My RE 5.5"(ZJ4.5") have *settled* to 5.75" with a beefed up ARB and a M8000 winch after 2-3 years of use. The ZJ coils are stiffer but I dont think I'de like it any softer.

Personally I'de get a set of ZJ4.5s and use a 1.5" spacer or just simply double up a set of stock isolators as they are about .75" each.

I've been running the same RE ZJ 4.5" coils since 1998 (before they even started calling them 5.5" XJ's), and with a winch bumper & M8000 they're giving this MJ an even 6".

I don't know anything about the RE XJ/TJ 7's (other than they advertise them as the same lift for TJ's & XJ's, which usually isn't true),
but I do know I'd buy another set of the 5.5" XJ RE's in a heartbeat.

I had a bad experience with a set of Rusty's 3" coils, but from what I've heard, the 6.5's are alot stiffer/more durable than the 3's were.

when i was decided on the RE 7.5" coils i called RE and they told me that, yes, they were the same coils...tj/xj. i asked the rep about spring rate and he didn't understand why coils from a tj wouldn't give an xj the same amount of lift!

well I'm going to try a set of 6.5" lift springs for a 78-79 bronco and see where it puts my xj with re drop brackets.:)

Those are very soft coils though, i have them in mine and with a Custom 4x4 fab front bumper w/ grill guard and a warn XD9000i winch i get about 5" out of them. I have 2" of lift in the brackets for the D44 so im at about 7" total. IIRC they said there like 150# coils. Correct me if im wrong but I think stock is like 165#.

no i didn't mean anything by that just a comparison. I think they ride really good, probably the best riding coils i've ever used. with the swaybar on the front they don't handle too bad either. They just don't give ME the lift they say.

Alot of changes for sure, almost a totally different rig. A few more on the way....

My thought on front spring rate leans toward stiffer to be better balanced with the rear but mine doesnt flex for crap so I could be way off.

I like the Rockkrawler 6.5" 2X
They also offer an 8" you might want to look at.
