Jay, is that offer to use your driveway still good? I got the new 3" lift leafs and +1.5" shackles on over the weekend, so the rear is sitting around 4.5", but the front is still 3", so it looks like a hot rod! :-)
Anyway, I need to swap on an adjustable track bar, 1.75" spring spacers, and some stock length fixed control arms (Rancho) that I'm gonna try to shim out enough to work. Anytime this weekend (except Sunday morning) would be fine, if Jay or anyone has a driveway I can use.
My floor jack and stands are still in Phoenix, so I'll need to borrow somebody's.
Thanks guys!

Unfortunately, I'm out in San Bernardino right now. I'm doing the "dual-residency" thing, with a house in Phoenix and an apartment out here in Cali.
Thanks for the offer, though!

No problem, next time you're in town, let's wheel, night run in the Florence area, or do the Rim country. I just got rid of a Wrangler and haven't convinced my buds that an XJ is the way to go...windows, A/C, doors, A/C, quiet, A/C, No stolen stuff, A/C,....

Mike, you can do it over at my place. I live a couple of blocks from Jay. He comes to my place to work on his stuff occasionally. I have all the air and power tools. Hopefully I'll be done with my head gasket by then, but we have plenty of space for a few projects at the same time. PM me for directions.

Sequoia, sounds like a good reason to get AAA plus, or whatever one gives you unlimited towing. One time my dad got towed home from Palm Springs on a flat bed tow truck, had the driver stop at a liquor store, bought a twelve pack and rode in his car on the back of the tow truck with a buddy.

Hey Sequoia, I think ther's a song in there somewhere. "Stuck'n the streets of Bakersfield". But on a serious note, sorry to hear that you're stranded.
I guess you could rent one of them there car dolly's, pull the XJ up onto it. Find yourself a busy south bound onramp and stick your thumb out.
No. Stop it Tim! Sorry, Sequoia.
This happens at work too. Somebody pops the keys off the keyboard then rearranges them six ways of sideways. I end up thinking (not good) that I'm typeing one thing and end up misspelling something all together different.
Is there enough left in place that you can get home with a pour in type sealant? Then clean the gunk out when you get home. I've never used this for a head gasket but it stops water from leaking out from the rest of the cooling system. Sodium Silicate (sp?), also known as "Egg Keep". I used to get it at the Pharmacy counter at the local drug store. Its a liquid and would stop up a pencil sized hole. It worked well combined with alumna seal for those dime sized leaks.

Seriously, though, let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

Whoops, looks like the link's broken. It was a news story about 5 people getting murdered in their home in Bakersfield yesterday.

I'm sure he's already losing sleep....but now...
Didn't that report say something about the suspect driving a mid size red SUV which they believe is a Jeep?
Better hurry up and get out of town before they catch ya! LOL
Keep us posted Sequoia we're all wishing yo a safe and timely trip home.

Okay, so I'm back in L.A. Ended up doing it a bit on the bum style, hopped a bus (well, paid for it, in cash no questions asked!) to LAX where Holly picked me up. The XJ is with Goatman right nwo and I'll figure out what I'm doing now...
As for the sealant. We tried something (to be honest I'm not sure what it was, but it wasn't the SS, but the guys swore by it and was trustworth). Anyway, it got it to idle smoothly, we let it idle for probably about ten minutes then I tried to take it around the block and it was no better. So the bus I rode...
As far as help...well, I'm noit sure what direction I'm going yet, except that I'd rather not have to change it in the Bakersfield heat. I'm thinking the best thing to do is to score a trailer and something to pull it and go pick the XJ up. I can rent a trailer if need, and if anybody wants to help on the pulling side I'll pay for gas, beer (after the drive please!), and crack non-funny jokes the entire way!

Ribs? I don't need no stinking ribs! I don't think anything got broke, but there seems to be 3 or 4 of them that are still holding a grudge. I think that if by Thur. they ain't smiling then I might go see about a second oppinion.
I went to the dealer and picked up a pass. side YJ E-brake cable and it's killing me that I can't put it on.
Sequoia, head for the tree. They know you. They are your friends. They can hide you. :eyes:

From experience cracking ribs 3 times - twice the same one - if they're just cracked there isn't crap they can do besides give you pain killers. They take forever to heal too, sorry to say. Mine took about 3-4 weeks each time.
Sequoia, I'm tossing the front half of my lift on this Saturday, but if you want to rent a trailer (or dolly) for Sunday I'd be happy to drive up there and drag it down with you, if you pay for the gas.

Got the spacers, trac bar, and LCAs on the front! There's a stock height 87-90 XJ right by my apartment, so I stopped and measured ground to flare height on his versus mine. He has stock tires, and I have 31s, and mine sits almost exactly 5" taller.
Thanks for the help Dan!
Is it just me, or every time you put a lift on... Do you get an uncontrollable urge to run crap over? :D
