its just been a really long day for me. first off, my buddy dropped off his bike and never told me what to do to it, then i bring it in the cellar and the yuck pipe decides to let go and spew s*** water all over the place, including the bike. to top off my day, home deepthroat dont carry what i need to fix it,and i got 4 kids (2 teens 2 pre teen) that "have to"take showers in the morn, and 3 feet of drain missing. sorry for the whine, but my dads not online to bitch to.

Could be worse...you and your family are still breathing, right?

Call "this old house" and maybe norm will show up with rich in tow :laugh3: ....All I can say is improvise....get something you can hook up temp, at least it does not have to hold pressure, well, depending on what you eat maybe just lay off the beer and pickled eggs. corrugated pipe and duct tape if necessary with a couple of dryer vent sized hose clamps...
I had my cold water pipe get a pinhole right on the inside of the valve, temp repaired it with a really really small hose clamp and some folded over electrical tape till I can get a plumber to show up. Using this problem to install a whole house filter and a lever/ball valve as long as it's going to be replaced. Going to give it two more days then I do it myself now that I know the sweating/soldering is so easy after doing a couple of sinks couple months ago.
Trying to get tradespeople to show up around here is tough, hell, getting them to even return a phone call is a PIA...

Cutting a sewer pipe over your head? :puke:
What is it, cast iron or plastic?
Have you tried a metal cut off wheel with an angle grinder?

This sounds liike one nasty job, if its cast iron, the only thing I can see doing it is a good sized cutoff wheel , well 3-4" cast iron....probably a few cutoff wheels.....

If it's cast iron there is a special cutter that scores and snaps it. Kinda like a pipe wrench with a chain on it. Seen a couple used and boy do they pop when they cut and snap it...
If you are going to replace it PVC you need a transition fitting from plastic to iron, HD might not have them but a good plumbing supply house will.

ok its a 6 inch cast main pipe and its actually under my basement floor.i ended up taking my tile saw apart to use the diamond blade which was working well until the grinder caught fire in my hand, so im waitin for pops to show up with his so i can finish. i did pick up the transitions i needed, man them things are pricey!in following the tradition of if it werent for bad luck i'd have no luck at all,my 2nd oldest daughter dropped me a "gift" when she forgot and flushed the toilet, as if it didnt smell bad enuff down here.

After you get all done with this and fix it up, seal everything and check for leaks start by spraying EVERYTHING down with pure clorox, once that is done scrub the area down with TSP on a stiff bristle brush then flush again, respray with diluted clorox and wet vac again. Pickup a cheap wet vac and use that then throw it away when you are done. Don't tell the plumbing supply place or they might force you to have, and no kidding here, a hazmat company come in to do the clean up. Raw sewage is some nasty stuff that can lead to long term health problems if not cleaned up properly. Good luck.

What Rich said x2, what goes through there require real meticulous cleanup, 'specially if someone left you a present ...yechhh, I had to splice a copper line to plastic this winter, it was in a wall , so it was easier to cut, but getting the transition fittings was a hassle..... only easy part was I did it while the family was away for the day, shut everything down and wasn't blessed with any little gifts from above.... :wierd:

ok well im finally done,no leaks, no smell, except for bleach(great idea guys but was pourin that around at the start of the whole project) and i even managed to shower myself. thanks for all the tips and ideas, although next time i think i'l just call a plumber, the money i saved really wasnt worth the aggrivation.
