Am heading out now to replace about 200 or so batteries in a bunch of big rackmounted UPS's. Anybody know if they are recyclable like normal car batteries ? They are those gell cell types that APC uses and other UPS manufacturers.
Along those lines, any suggestions for what I should tip the UPS guy who delivered them to the second floor other than a new jock strap :D The manager there said he was not a happy camper...
I already know I'm going to be feeling it tomorrow because they are all mounted in the bottom of the cabinets.
Note: Need to remember to take my knee and elbow pads and my miners headlamp....

Yes, they are recyclable. The company that sold you the batteries will most likely take 'em back if they are local. If not, dig through the phone book and any local battery house will send a driver out to grab 'em.

Signed,
a battery guy. :)

Rich - be glad they're not at hte top of the rack!

Every battery I've gotten (always been APC) has come with a call tag inside to send the old one(s) back.

If they're not local, have UPS pick them up. :laugh3:

The rumor at my workplace is that places that sell batteries (like autopart stores) are legally required to take batteries in (that contain lead) even if they can't give you core credit for not having purchased them there. Anyway good luck with that.

I have a battery company in San Diego, and while we aren't required ever to take back anything, most places that sell batteries will do it to make an extra buck.

Hmmm, who buys them :D, heck better in my pocket than someone elses...I'll horse them down to the XJ or fold the seat on the TJ...

Battery manufacturers. An Exide truck comes to my work every month or so and picks up a couple pallets of car batteries. Also, places that buy scrap metals might want them.

No...he said they take them back to MAKE extra $$. ;) There are disposal fees they need to pay so they charge YOU.
