OK.... I am curious who else broke things they never expected to. I have broken off my zerk! I have never expected to have to deal with that!
What about the rest of you?

I broke my dash mtd toggle switch which locks 2d gear in or out...
Luckily 4 me it broke in the locked out mode as I was fixin to climb a pretty steep trail up a small mountain.
 Which reminds me I need to swap that over to a push-pull switch on my console before Tellico.

I broke my pitman arm in 1/2. I just happened to have one and the puller and a pickle fork with me, so I was back on the trail in no time. I did it on a "poser" shot.

My CB antenna, forgot to put on my spring mount and a tree took it right off 10 minutes into Red creek 2002. I was out of the conversation loop real fast.

Not really on the 'trail' (but was on a gravel driveway) Yesterday my hatch glass popped out
Luckily it didn't smash into smithereens
Kinda cool having 5-window AC tho...

I broke the tranny bellhousing on the way out to Moab two years ago. I believe it was already stress cracked from a previous accident, but when my rear driveshaft failed on the way (brand new TW shaft...), it broke the bellhousing into 5 pieces all around where the starter mounts.

I have broken a zerk (front of an LCA), A taillight (when I backed over my buddies flawless CJ-7), a towhook mount (ask me about properly mounting towhooks), a passenger seat (overwieght friends), and my carpet (swamp - 20 min, this is why I Rhino'ed the inside) that all the wierd stuff.

well I broke a tail light backing out of a tight trail spot, bent a tow hook, broke my drivers side bottom (smallest) leaf spring, and not really a "break" but I was whelling in the summer last year and it got so hot inside that a can of black spray paint on the floor board EXPLODED.....wife wasn't very happy with black paint all over a tan interior!!!:anon:

Fuel gage. Going gets rough and I'm on E. Drive around for about an hour or so, look down, and I'm back up to where I should be on gas.

Zerk on front driveshaft. Spun it right off in the rock garden at the T6 (whatever that is Ed) crossing at Deep Creek. It's magic though, it used to be 6mm, but now it's 1/4"x 20. LOL. BTW, this was prior to the work that th FS is doing (done yet?) now.

Power steering pressure hose deveolped a pin-hole leak while off-raod outside of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada. It only sprayed fluid if I turned. The sharper the turn, the more it smoked. Mopar dealer search showed there was only one replacement in Western Canada, and it was in Vancouver, 500 miles away. Thankfuly, once back to pavement we were able to drive relatively straight.

Hey - I remember that washing machine! - still have a scar on my passenger side rocker.
And seeing Chris' reply just reminded me as well of the scar on the top of my front clip, seems that it was once attached to a KY rear bumper corner! :D
....such warm memories of Attica.

My dog jumped out of the Jeep on a trail in McCaslin, WI and broke a leg. Worst part was I didn't notice he had ejected for another 1/2 mile. 20 minutes of backtracking found him laying in a puddle of mud on the trail, wagging and panting, just happy to be. He is not a smart dog, but he is a good dog.

Not really weird, per se,but none the less......in my infancy days of 'wheeling I had a K-5 Blazer. I mounted the CB antenna on the outermost side part of the rear bumper. My first trip out,I got it snagged on a low tree branch or something and it snatched the coax clean out of the base. After trying to talk to everyone for the next 10-15 minutes and getting no response,I stopped to investigate and found the problem. The real problem was, however,I had already smoked the brand new Cobra CB trying to talk on it with no antenna

I did that in Tellico Y2K with my new K40 magnetic base & 4' whip... All day the first day I had to reset it on the MJ inner R fender. That night I glued the base down with silicone...broke the whip off on the 3rd day.
As for "how" I got the window to pop out? I wish my story was as sexy as how Crash did his, but alas mine involved crossing railroad tracks with a walk-behind mower in the back...the glass fell out 150 feet from where the mower got unloaded (and I wasn't the one who shut the hatch)

i had an s10 blazer last summer and was backing up out of a ravine back onto the road.. got into the trees and brush behind me and as i drove away i tried to pull a 5" tree out of the ground with my rear window spoiler.. it got wedged in between the wing and the body.... broke the glass, ripped 1 hinge out of the roof and wing was bent to hell.... i guess super dark tinted windows really do impair your vision....

5 inches of rain in a few hours will do that - you should upgrade to titanium arms for NACFest '04.

I did that too, except I had to break through the 4" layer of ice first, then land in the stream and come up entirely soaked after falling into a stream a mere 8" deep. Oh, did I mention it was 26* outside and I had no change of clothes within 250 miles(day trip to GWNF). Oh yeah, and I did all this trying to help some MORON in a TJ after he got stuck for the third time on the EXACT same line, where he knew he wasn't gonna clear(something about the front diff smacking into a solid rock face dead on causing a lack of forward progress didn't register with him  ).

Another vote for pride, but it wasn't quite trail damage. I was up at Gold Lakes over the Fourth of July last weekend with SactoXJ, ExtremeMopar, and JP. I was driving my dad's MJ, and after a nice day on the trail Saturday, I hadn't destroyed my rokers or broken anything. I had even been able to strap a YJ. Then, back at camp before we went to town for dinner and fireworks, I find out I destroyed both my brake rotors.

Last Friday I was running Tellico with Woody and the boys. We had gone up to Slickrock and on the way back we got caught behind a full size Chevy pickup that broke his left front knuckle. Broke the three bolts holding it on to the steering. to make a long story short....after trying welding it twice we finally decided to winch it off the trail so we could get by. Since I had the only winch, Woody hooked up to my rear and we snaked the winch line out to a tree and then to the truck and finally got it out of the way. This took about 4 hours from start to finish. It's now 10:30 PM. After driving past the Chevy I parked and walked back to help out. Since it was so dark and muddy I decided eventually to hop in a Bronco and ride back down to my XJ hoping to avoid the slipping and sliding. The driver promptly lost control and the Bronco rolls over on it's driver door. I end up with my feet up against the driver's door with my ass in his face. Caught my jeans on something and ripped out the rearend. There WAS a full moon out! Does that count as trail damage? Danno :D :D

Dan... that falls under one of two categories...
1. Story involving Beez in it
2. Something that would happen in California (see the other thread http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=6951&goto=newpost)
so my question is... how did you let it happen and let it break the two above rules?

Had my XJ rearview drop in my lap once somewhere out east of Phoenix. Apparently hot weather and a little bumpin' around loosened it.
Ripped the lightbar off my 87 Toyota when I caught a pine branch under it. That's when I decided to relocate the lights after doing some body work to repair the tear. The worst part was that you couldn't see the tear when the truck was standing still. At highway speeds the whole bar would tip back 20 degrees and start howling...I'd stop and so would it.
Someone posted a broken oil sender unit; I did that on the highway to Boise once. Ended up JB Welding a quarter onto the end of it and driving home.

I used to have a '74 Commando with a plow. Word to the wise, don't 'wheel with the plow frame attached. After smacking a partially submerged boulder and standing the thing on it's nose (lap belts aren't nearly as good as a 5-point - I bloodied my nose) I learned, welded or not, the plow frame will indeed come off.
