97 sight glass

No, R134 systems don't, at least of jeeps, if the compressor cycles more than 5x's in one minute the R134a is low.

Mine has the sight glass I believe youre talking about and its a factory R134a system. It is true that later model systems on a lot of cars don't have it as its apparently not a reliable way to gauge the level on a 134a system. What year XJs (besides 97) are we referring to? It would make sense that with all those other little changes implemented in 97 the sight glass went away.

My 96 with R134a has a sight glass, located on top of the reciever/dryer near the bottom rear of the compressor.

When the compressor starts, a rush of bubbles will be seen through the glass, and then disappear after a few seconds. If bubbles continue to be seen, then the referigerant is low.
