Mom got this as an e-mail from a family friend, she thinks we all need to call in to keep from getting telemarketer calls on our cell phones. I'm not too sure if I should believe it or not.

JUST A REMINDER 31 days from today, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to

receive sale calls. YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS.

These Telemarketers will eat up your free minutes and end up costing you money in the long run. To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888/382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only
take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5)
years.

PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS

You can register on line at:
www.donotcall.gov/ http://www.donotcall.gov

Now I normally don't answer my phone unless I know who's calling, but what o you guys think?

I've heard the same thing, it sounds rediculous. Why would they give the #s to the telemarketers?

Why would they give the #s to the telemarketers?
Why wouldn't they? The more phone calls they can generate the more money they are making.

It is common practice for companies to sell their customer information such as phone list and mailing lists, I used to buy them all the time when I did donor relations for the Rescue Mission, we would buy phone lists for the telemarketers and mailing lists for the bulk mail, you can buy them by demographics and really target specific groups of people
