Compression Test on 94 XJ

I rented a compression tester for a few days to do a CT on my Aunt's 94 XJ.
I know these are basic questions - but since I'm new to CT'ing I just want to
be sure I'm getting the most out of the test.

1) What's the safest/easiest way to disable the spark on the 94 XJ?
2) What's the safest/easiest way to disable the fuel source on the 94 XJ?
3) How long do I "warm up" the XJ before the test? I hear this matters??
4) Do I "pre-crank" before testing each cylinder?
5) Do I floor the pedal while cranking during the actual compression test?
6) What kind of compression results are acceptable for the 94 XJ (4.0L) ?
7) Am I only interested in the 3rd puff, or does the 1st puff tell me anything?

Thanks!

1. For all cylinders - remove the center wire on your distributor (wire to the coil)... for 1 cylinder... pull that 1 wire off the distributor.
2. For all cylinders - unplug the fuel pump (under the jeep behind the back drivers side seat)... for 1 cylinder I would unplug the electronics of that particular fuel injector.
3. Not sure... never specifically warmed one up before a test.
4. I didn't...just went right for it.
5. Nope... your fuel should have nothing to do with the compression (especially if you unplug the injector for the cylinder you are testing).
6. ...mmmm...its been too long...not sure.
7. 1st...3rd...my CT gague has a "max" needle which is all I look at. If it maxes out on the 1st crank or 100th crank I see the same. I would assume you would get (basically) the same reading for every crank though...so: I don't think it matters.

I just connect up my remote starter button to run the starter with the key off.

Readings should be 90# to 110# with no more than 20# between the low and high.
The differance between low and high is the most important part.
If your test shows more than 20# then squirt some oil in each cylinder and test again.
If it's better your rings are shot, if it stays the same then you need a valve job.
