idle problems

Having random idle problems. Jeep usually purrs beautifully, but after long grades, it will heat up quite a bit and then when I come to a stop I notice that the idle is anywheres between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. If I turn off engine and start it back up, the idle usually is corrected. Is there a bad control valve? And is the valve causing my fuel mixture to lean up and overheat the engine?

Help please...

Erratic idle with ocassional high idle has been a faulty TPS on mine. The overheating may not be related- have you checked your fan clutch to see that it engages? When the engine is hot and shut off, the main fan should be hard to turn by hand.
