rear locker??

i am curious as to what exactly a rear locker is and does? and a general price for one...i have a 2WD xj and may be curious in a locker...thanks in advance

quick version...

a locker, when torque is applied to it, will lock the two axle shaft so they both turn at the same speed instead of just one, when torque is let off, it will act like a regular diff, allowing one wheel to travel faster than the other.
