I searched and read for a couple hours and didn't find what I was looking for.
Does the NSS on the trans of a AW4 have anything to do with the torque converter lock up operation? My NSS has gone bad and I was thinking about doing a temporary fix with a push button starter bypassing the NSS. It's a mostly trail only rig but I do want it to be streetable just in case. Thanks for your help guys, sorry if this is a question that's been covered already, I swear I did search.

Yes that switch is 1-2, 3, DR. Reverse, Netural, selector. The transmission is electrically controlled in part by that switch.

do ya'll think I would be hurting anything to just use a remote starter button for a couple days of wheelin? I would be bypassing the NSS really, I'd just leave it alone for right now and jump the battery to the solinoid.

just FYI, your reverse lights are controlled through that switch, so if you're wondering where they went when you disconnect it, thats where they've gone. and it really isn't any harder to clean the NSS, load it up with some new terminal grease and re-install it than it is to pull any sensor on your engine. check jeepin.com or the other link above for a good writeup. you should be able to do it in about 1/2-3/4 hr.
