History:
1. on occasion while driving it will die for second but then recovers. (it feels like a bucking sensation......lurches you forward once and then takes back off and is fine).
2. swapped out the leaky radiator yesterday.
3. (while warming up engine while adding replacement antifreeze).
while idling jeep dies. starts right back up. did this 4 or 5 times with anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes in between
4. died at a stop light this morning. started right back up.
5. got to work and was tightening the tranny line a bit and it died. started right back up.

UPDATE:
this morning it did it a couple of more times while driving down the road. I noticed that the tach drops towards 0 but back up to where it is suppose to be when it recovers.

Could it be the pickup coil?

any help will be appreciated.

thanks

Could it be the pickup coil?

Sounds like the CPS on the bell housing. The pickup coil in the distributor is not for ignition It’s called a Cam shaft Position Sensor. The one that goes bad all the time is the CPS.

If a pick-up coil goes bad, the engine will continue runnng, with the ECU using the last signal given to it. But then it won't restart.

I agree with Langer1, it's probably the CPS going bad.

today it got alot worse. took 5+ seconds to restart on a couple of occassions.
died and restarted a few times on the way home at highway speeds.

the only guage to react is the tach.....2k to 0 and then back up to 2k.

replaced the cps. seemed straight forward enough.

1. remove 2 bolts, unplug and remove cps.
2. replace cps, plug in and tighten 2 bolts.

is that it?
nothing to align or tweak?

it seemed to pull itself into position when it got close.

will keep you posted.

Straight r&r, no "setting" or anything. It will only fit one way, as you noticed.
