Anyone ever sneek one out without completely removing the oil pan from under the engine. Newly painted oil pan, had it off a few weeks ago to chage oil pump. I can replace gasket without pulling pan out. I can slip under the oil pump pickup. I can move it forward enough to have pretty good access to the bearing cap. Just asking because laying on my back, this particular stock XJ (92) is a royal pain to get the pan completely out.

If you have good access to the rear main cap, don't see why you can't change the seal, unless you can't work the upper half into place without loosening all of the main caps (NOT removing,-just loosening to get a little more "play" at the rear.) Replacing mine ('88 4.0L) was not difficult. Only had to remove the rear cap.
