OKay, is this a good deal?

I'm looking to buy my first jeep and I scope one in my friends frontyard, A '90 XJ Pioneer 4.0 w/ 157 k and a dent in the door.
I offered 500 and his mom wanted 800 because of "New Tires" I said: "fine keep the tires and throw em on your liberty" I'm going to pick it up some time this week for $500 get the tires switched with a set of 31x10.50's I Have and I have 3 questions:
1. Is This a Good Deal?
2. Will my 31's fit under there with fender trimming since I don't hav alot of cash for a lift at this time?
3. It doesn't pass emmissions. Are there any ways to do this temporarily if I plan to rip the cats off and run headers after it passes?

Yes it sounds like a goo deal to me. As far as the 31's are concerned you will have to do a lot of trimming a budget lift would help along with the trimming. As far as the emissions test sis concerned I don't know.

Emissions could be the O2 sensor, could be the catalytic converter, or could be something else.

DO NOT remove the catalytic converter. (a) It's illegal (yeah, I know, you're young and you don't think the laws apply to you); and (b) removing the catalytic converter has not been shown to improve performance, and many people have reported a loss of low-end torque w/o the cat.

Sounds like a good deal. The 31s will fit if you don't disconnect the sway bars.

Your right I am young and the laws don't apply to me. j/k
From whta I've heard you have to take them (the cats) off with the addition of headers? Do you have to dissconect the Sway bars if you add a budget 2" lift? one more thing: Could a new catylitic con. mean the difference between passing an failing an emm. test?

1) You still run Cats with Headers
2) Nope you can run the sway bar at least up to 3" cause thats what I run and it's still on there working fine...could go much farther for all I know 3 is just what I have experience with
3) Non jeep related experience tells me YES a new catalytic converter could mean the difference it was on My 1977 Plymouth Volare<-------POS for sure!

No, you *DON'T* need to remove the cat to put on a header. The cat itself is several feet of tube away from the header. For instance, Borla's header comes with a new crosspipe, and ends with the same type of tube and location as the stock.

You don't have to remove the sway bars with a 2" lift. Personally I hate running without a front sway bar, and in city traffic it's just a bad idea. At 2", though, the stock links should be okay.

Yes, a failed catalytic converter can mean a failed emissions test (this is almost by definition :) ).

I originally had my sway bars on with a 3 1/2 inch lift so you can leave them on with a 2 inch budget boost.
You also can run a cat with a header.
what you need to do is get it emissions tested. Then a place that repairs emmissions equipment can analizy why it's not passing. It may be minor like a tune up or something more major but at any rate you need something to work off of so that it can be analized.
