Holey Rockers

I'm trying to stop my rockers from rusting away. Born and raised in New England, my XJ had a few rust spots and some bubbling paint. I figured it was just some surface rust I could sand off and paint over, but boy did I get a surprise...

The rust spots are almost through the whole sheet. I can probably put my finger through it if I push hard enough. I also found some bondo next to the rust. I've been the only owner. I wonder what the heck is going on.

I think the bubbling paint is worse than no paint at all. The paint probably holds the salt water in and promotes crevice corrosion. The next time I start to see bubbling, I'll just go at it with a steel bristled brush. Jeez, this sucks. I guess I should look into getting some box tube welded in.
