manual tranny Question?

ok so i have a '89 2wd MJ with a 5-speed manual, however its engine was swapped for a HO version. Now the tranny is bad can i take the 5-speed tranny from a '93 4wd Xj and leave the t-case off? or how hard would a tranny swap to the aw4 be also leaving off the t-case? or should i just try to convert it to 4wd?

also just curious anyone in the portland OR area have a shop or would like to take on this project?

If they are both AX-15's you should be able to swap the tailcone and output shaft and be fine.

i think my bad one is the peugot, but not certain.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the Peugot trannies. The AX15's are known to be considerably stronger.

yeha im not sure which tranny it is since the engine was swapped before i got it, its a 5 speed and its dead thats all i really know...
