Did you pull shafts to see if was 35 spline ?

I guess it was??? I ordered a lockright for it and I think I just assumed it was a 35 spline...I can see if I can find the box for the lockright and get the numbers off it...then we can cross it over to find out how many splines....

The Dodge axle should be 31 splines. The only FF 60 that ever got the right DIA spindles for 35 spline shafts was a few years of Chevy one ton vans. What would be really helpful is if I could remember the years......... :laugh3:
Now if your not restricted to only a FF and have no problems running a SF 60. Then the 35 spline axles are plentiful. If you don't mind droping the coin to have the spindles bored out then a Dodge 60 would be your best bet. The Perch width is identical to an XJ. Here is one I built. Out of a '75 Dodge W200, 65" WMS, 31 Spline Shafts, 4.10s, Lincoln Locked, Disc Brakes, and JKS shock mounts.........sold it for $500. Completely bolt in for an XJ and some 16 year old kid bought it for his TJ.............

something else to think about, Dana 70's all have 35 spline axles and can be gotten cheaper than a dana 60, yeah there bigger and you'll lose a little ground clearance, but i't kinda hard to break one.

called the junk yard today to ask them to see what years dodge trucks interchange...should be all 3/4 ton 2wd from 76-90...IIRC...phone was breaking up so please double check...35 spline or 31 spline...I dont see my xj breaking the 60 anytime soon...some one was recently picking on my "wimpy" d60 late model dodge front...and yep...its probably the weakest d60 front...still stronger than the d30 it replaced...

the ARB axle bible states:
all dodge axles where 30 spline except for
71-82 88-95 250 , 350 trucks front only it was the d60HD
dodge never had 31 spline or 35 spline rears in a dana 60 only in the dana 70 and 80 in dodge trucks

Dana never made a 31 spline shaft only the Ford 8.8's and 9" came from the factory with 31 spline shafts, some with 28 splines. I think someone meant 30 or 35 spline for the dana 60.

Ever think about a 14 bolt. Disc brake kits are cheep as well as lockers. Little weaker than the 70 but stronger and cheeper than the 60. Just a suggestion. And the lowest that you can go is 5.13. Till next spring for the 5.38's

the ring and pinion are stronger but the 14 bolt only has 33 spline axles stock and many 60's have 35 spline axles. Ill stick with the 60. Isnt the 14 bolt C clip also?

Why would a full foating axle have c-clips? Let's think a little bit, kiddies.
Unless you meant the semi-floating version. In that case, I dunno. The neat thing about that axle however is you can get it in 6 or 5 lug variants to match a front end swap.

Only a small amount of chevy 14 bolts where full floaters even the 14 bolt in the H2 is a semi floater
30/3500 trucks, vans, suburbans where all semi float as where the 1500's series,
only a few 20/2500 series 82 and up. 4500-5700 LB l range trucks used full floaters according to the ARB bible

There are 2 types of 14 bolt rear ends. A full-float 14 bolt with a 10.5" ring gear And the semi-float 14 bolt with a 9.5" ring gear. The semi-float is c-clip from the factory.

Ummm, my '97 K2500 Sub has the FF 14 bolt. Anything diesel or big block has it, 3/4 or 1-ton. I'm not well versed on the newer-than-'99 trucks though.

The NBS (new body style) trucks use the AAM 14 bolt (11.5" ring gear, IIRC,) behind the 8.1 big block and the Duramax, which is different from the traditional one we are all used to. The older 14 bolt is retained behind the 6.0 liter, but I'm not sure if it is FF or SF. This is true for pickups & 3/4 ton Suburbans.

The age of your catalogue is not a problem. There have been two 14 bolts since the early 80s. One with a 9.5" ring gear, 33 spline axles and semifloat. The other with a 10.5" gear, 1.5" shafts and full float.
Lockers and gears are not interchangeable at all.
ARB does not make a locker for the larger axle, which is why it's not in your catalogue. Should be out soon, though.

Yep, 2 versions of 14 bolt axles, the 9.5" ring gear axle is usually called the 14P (Passenger), the full float 14 bolt with the 10.5" ring gear usually is called the 14T (Truck) and can be found in all those Ex-Army Chevy 1-ton trucks and they have a detroit with 4.56 gears. Those are completely different axles and they have nothing in common except the number of cover bolts.

I am about to do a 60 front/rear swap and will run 38s. With this i will making a internal cage that will tie into the frame rails to stiffen it up and then i will sleeve the sections where the cage ties in to the frame and the leaf brackets will come off and i will sleeve there also. untill i move to 42s the entire frame will not be sleeved but sections of it where most stress will occur. it mainly depends on what size tires you are running as to how much stress will be put on the frame.
I believe TNT customs makes a good xj sleeving kit you might want to look into that if you arn't into making your own...http://www.tntcustoms.com/webv2/default.asp#
