steering intermediate shaft removal? Anyone know how?

I'm trying to remove the steering intermadiate shaft in my 93, anyone know how to do this?

I don't think you can do this without moving either the steering column or the steering gear. The column cannot be telescoped without destructive force. On my 95 I was never able to slip the shaft far enough in either direction to clear the other end.

Note that you must fully remove the lower bolt, which engages a groove in the shaft of the steering gear.

Later (97-up) shafts telescope without force, making it possible to remove and reinstall them without undoing anything else. Someone a month or two ago was asking whether they could be retrofitted, but I haven't seen an update on whether he ever found out. I hope someone tries it and posts back.

yup - you have to drop the steering gear box out to allow the shaft to be removed. just did this yesterday to install a new shaft
