Has anyone done an extension on the bushwacker flare to make it wider? In Austalia the police will hassle me over uncovered tyres and ive got 35" maxxis creepy crawlers that stick out past the bushwackers by about 1 1/2"
at the moment ive got a foam product between the guard and the flare witch works fine but looks crap I was think of going to a surfboard maker and gettiing them to fab up some sort of spacer . Biggest problem with the foam is its not shiney at least a fiberglass extension could be painted to look similar to the flare in colour. Any ideas?

Running TJ flares is a popular alternative around these parts. Bushwacker makes a 6" TJ flare. It would likely be butt ugly but would cover more than the BW XJ flares.

On a more practical note, why not rivit some ~2.5mm black vinyl or pvc to the flat underside of the BW flares. You could trim the outside edge to cover as far as you needed. Depending on the amount of extention you may need to bump up the thickness a mil or two.

Intelectual value: 2 cents.

Have you looked at the material that is used on medium duty trucks for the wheel wells (Isuzu NPR, Mitsu trucks, etc..)? I am using some "generic" stuff that I got at the local truck supply shop. It is about 2" wide with a lip on the bottom that I used pop rivets on to mount mine.

Have you checked out the Zenon extended fender flares for TJ's? I just installed a set on my dad's Rubicon and I think they look a lot better than Bushwhacker's...plus they're a lot more flexible. Depending on which width you go with, they could give you a lot of coverage.

Yes, Xenon polyurethane TJ flares are 6" wide and are a night and day difference when compared to Bushwacker's brittle ABS plastic.

Yeah, those are the ones I was talking about (I just can't spell tonight :laugh3: ) One of my dad's friends that has another Rubi put on Crapwhacker's (their new name for them, no offense to those who have had good luck with them) and on the first trail ride with them hit a small sapling and broke the flare into a pile of shards. With the Xenon's you can twist them right around and they go right back to their original shape.

Yup, not to mention that they're about 1/4" thick!!!

the problem is not extending the flare outwards. Because we have only lifted the xj maybe 4' from standard I need to get as much width in the opening as I can when the tyres tuck in . So its really only the leading edge of the flare that catches.
