My pops mentioned to me the other day that he'd like to get up in the hills and do some target shooting. Years back, we've gone up to Slaughterhouse Gulch, but I've been told shooting isn't allowed up there anymore. Any truth to that?

Any of you know some places to shoot on public land? He's dying to try out my AR15 and he's got a neat old .357 wheel gun I wanna check out.

There's still a public range off of Rampart Range road right outside of the Springs, it would be quite the drive. Generally, any National Forest, unless posted otherwise, is open for shooting. Pikes Peak NF is posted no shooting anywhere close to the Springs, but past Divide it's open.

Cherry Creek has a range for pistol, rifle & shotgun. About $7 to get in last time I shot there. There is a gun range on Gun club road, out east of Aurora. Rampart is free and easy to get to, if you live near Colorado Springs. Rampart is a but over-crowded on the weekends.
