I am rebuilding a Ford Nodular 9" rear end that has blown spider gears. The tech at the parts counter asked asked if it was a 2 or 4 pinion. How do I tell?

IIRC there would be 2 spider gears or 4. Is it an open diff or what?

It is an open diff with 4 spider gears

Than that would be 4 pinion. Only 2 spider gears would be 2 pinion.

Thank you! that was easy enough. My brain was telling me "there is only one pinion gear???"

i think my mind is turned off but how whould there only be two spider gears and still have it function.
