Can these be replaced with out much trouble? I figure the guts are coming out is there anything but pinion depth I should worry about since Im not unseating the ring gear. I got brass punches and I can install lockers but gears are spooky to me never donem

if you gonna change you pinion bearings you have to "re-set" your gears. the pinion is spaced a precise distance away from the ring gear and with new bearings it will change that distance even if you use your existing shims. why exactly do you want to change out your pinion bearings and not all bearings in the diff?

i won't go into the details of gear setups because there is plenty on here to read about:kissyou:

if ya wann fix the leak temp like while ya save for the re-gear ya can just buy a seal pull the yoke and pop off the seal and slide a new one in should take ya about 1 hr. and about the whine make sure ya got enough fluid in there hasta but if it's whining it's prob too late.

You won't have to mess with the gears at all. Bearings are manufactured to precision specs and it is safe to assume one bearing to another, with the same part number, will be less than .001" difference. Swap the bearings without worry.

You will want to double check inside the housing after you knock the old races out and make sure the punch didn't create any high spots. Even a brass punch can create a high spot and prevent the race from seating fully. I just use a steel punch to knock the dings back down.

Waste of $. At the very least get 4.56's and if your axle allows for it get 4.88's.
