Changing all u-joints and a seal what else to do? Part #s?

Since apparently after 100k miles I'm supposed to. And as an attempt at shotgun maintence for this problem (please help!): http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=59128 I'm going to go ahead and change all the u-joints in my 01 xj (aw4, np231).

Before I head over to NAPA tommorow, I want to make sure I'm getting everything I need.

Front axles: I need (2) 5-297x u-joints. Also seen these reffered to as 5-760x... is it the exact same thing?

Front driveshaft: I need (3) of something ;) Are these 1310 or 1330 u-joints?
Rear driveshaft: (2) u-joints, again 1310 or 1330?

Also replacing front d30 pinion seal while I'm at it because it's leaky.

While I'm there I'll check the bearings/hubs for wear by making sure they don't have any play in them, and don't make any noises or drag when rotating.

Any other checks I should do, or parts I should replace while I'm doing the above?

Thanks, Kristoffer

760s (5-760X) are a hardened version of the 297 and will be fine.

You need five 5-153X u-joints for the driveshafts. The change in noise when the vehicle is loaded is a good indicator that there is a problem in the joint, as the operating angles in the rear will change with a load of passengers. The 5-153x is a 1310 joint.

Use Spicer u-joints, not cheap knockoff crap.

Yucca, after reading other threads on here, it seams most NAPA's, checker, nor Autozone carry spicer. Do you think anything of NAPA's performance joint, or Precision Ujoints super strength lines? (I hate the stealerships)

I get my Spicers from NAPA. Drivetrain Specialists and most of the driveshaft/gear shops should carry them as well.

Edit: While the other product names may be reliable, I think of it like my computer. You can buy a "SoundBlaster-compatible" soundcard that will probably work fine, or you can make sure you get one that works well - a SoundBlaster card. Same thing with the u-joints.

Thanks Yucca. I just saw a post about http://www.fleetpride.com/ carrying them, and see that there's one down the street from me, so I'll check them out.

Any other advice on other things to changeout, maintain, or check for wear? while I'm doing all this? Should I change the strap that holds the cardan to the yoke (i.e. do they stretch over time?). Also, will the new 297 joints come with the outer caps (I notice that currently my axle and the caps are all rusted into one pretty ugly piece)?

The straps will stretch over time; drilling out or swapping out the yokes to accept a u-bolt would be a good upgrade. In the meantime, new straps would be prudent.

Can't think of anything else that would be recommended without seeing the underside. I think you said you gave it a full tuneup on another thread, right?
