By "casual" I mean that any type of rig is welcome... Just as long as it meets the standard requirements.
I'm planning on heading up to the Rubicon and getting a run in before I leave the country for a month. I'm planning on going up on Friday, June 24 (Loon side) and returning home on Sunday, the 26th (out Tahoe side). It's a couple of weeks out, so mark your calendar and get the wrenching done if you'd like to come.
This weekend is also a proposed Friends Of The Rubicon (FOTR) work day, so come and get some wheeling in as well as give a little back to help keep the Rubicon open.

SoCal who???
I think I recall something about that now that you mention it. They were planning on going in from Tahoe, right? If so, I'm up for that, although going against traffic might be a little tough. I have wanted to run the trail in reverse for a change.

We'll be there, with shovel and axe, to help where we can.

I'll be somewhere, some time for something. Helping maintain the trail sounds pretty good to me.

There is a thread on the pirate board (pirate4x4.com) about the FOTR clean-up. On Del's site (delalbright.com), there is a sign-up sheet if you're going to be able to help out. You don't have to be signed up to help out. Just show up.
The main focus will be getting the kiosk ready for the season, basically a deck around it. I'm sure gatekeeper will need some attention. Clearing downed trees and blocking off early illegal bypasses will need to be done after the winter.
For those playing on the Tahoe side, getting the water off the trail is most important. I diverted a run-off creek last week up there. It was running down the trail and I diverted it to a waterbar so it would cross the trail without stirring up dirt. If you can drain a mud hole or puddle, it would help.
The Lake Tahoe Hi-Lo's will be up there doing their trail maintenance.

Yeah, we ran it last year in the regular direction and this year we want to run it in reverse. I think that because not only we're starting on Thursday but also the weather might be somewhat chilly we're not going to run into too many problems trafficwise. And then from Spider or so, isn't the traffic often going there and back anyways?

Yes, typically the traffic is in both directions from Spider to Loon. From what I've observed, it mainly goes in toward Spider on Friday night and Saturday morning, out toward Loon on Sunday.
I'll most likely come in through Loon on Friday. I want to be able to help out with the FOTR project, and if it will be centralized from Loon, I want to be near the entrance to the trail. I'll most likely camp at Ellis Creek on Friday and Saturday night, but we'll see how crowded things get.
Fires are okay with a permit, right?

So who all is going to be up there, and where (if you care to reveal) will you be camping? I'll be up there Friday around dinner time, either at Ellis Creek or somewhere around Loon.

you mean who's going to be coming in from Loon?
there's a couple threads on everyone coming in from Tahoe in the Sierra and SoCal sections, sounds like a pretty big group. I think the plan is Rubicon Springs thurs. night, Buck Island friday night, Spider saturday night.
I'll be starting friday morning, camping at Buck friday night, and driving out through Loon on saturday, so I'll probably see ya.

Yea, I meant coming in from Loon...
I'll see what time we end up hitting the trail on Friday night. It'll be just me, so I might be able to make good time and make it to Buck.
