1995 XJ Question

In my 1995 XJ Country, what is that plasitic thing between the visors that has a little black orb protruding from it? I took the two screws out and removed it as far as it would and it appears to have some sort of circuit board and wires going to it. What is that thing???

Is it an electronic compass? Does it work?

It is the reciever for your keyless entry.

thanks. I never got a remote with the jeep when I bought it. So would it be ok to remove it? I want to install my cb there.
