Ring&Pinion Pattern. How do these photos look?

Just looking for someone elses opinion. Looks like I need the pattern a little deeper on the tooth. What do you think?

Your right on the ball. Need to move the pinion closer to the ring gear. On the right track. My guess would be about .005 or .007 would do the trick. But be patient and dont settle for a pattern that isnt correct.

Yup... what he said. Pinion shows shallow. I would start with .003". then add .003" more if its still not right. what is marked on the pinion head and how much do you have in the pinion?

The head of the pinion says "288" and "2,328". The 4 photos I posted on saturday had 0.020" of shims under the pinion head, same that the stock pinion had.

After 0.020, I tried 0.032, and now I have 0.035. How do these look now? Sorry my camera isn't very good. Will the crush sleeve affect the pinion depth at all? If so, how much should I account for it?

Looks good. And the crush sleeve will not do anything with the pinion depth.

Took it all apart, put it all back together with the same shims as in previous install, added new pinion bearings, races, and crush sleeve. Now these are the patterns I am getting.

Looks like you set the BL a little bit tighter. open it up a scosh.

It's right around 0.007", which is right about where I had it for the previous trials, but I've got some playing room so I'll open it up a bit.

Pinion depth looks good though, right? (patten centered from Face to Flank)

Adjusted Backlash to 0.008 and then 0.010 and this is what I get. It doesn't seem to be moving the patten to how I had it with the "setup" bearings.

To me it looks a little deep on the Coast, a little shallow on the Drive. The Coast is centered heal to toe, but the Drive is towards the toe, but it isn't running off the edge of the toe.

0.008" BL Coast

0.008" BL Drive

0.010" BL Coast

0.010" BL Drive

while it does look a hair deep on both sides. bring the BL out to .010 and see what that does. double and triple check to see if the pinion is seated all the way.
