just finished Prey and Disclosure, that man never falls short of blowing my mind. He has to be one of the best out there. Such good stories and the way he conveys them, not to mention that there all plausible. just was curious if anyone else out there appreciates him.(also need to pass the time at work on this lovely memorial day:()

You have got to read State of Fear! Its really not the best book he has writen(I have read all his books) but when you talk about backing things up...This takes the cake. Basicly he disproves Global Warming and really knocks all the stupid wacko Enviromentalists....It was great!

One of his books that is really good is called Travels (I think). Its kind of an autobiograghy. Guy has had an interesting life...Gone all the way through medical school only to find out he wanted to do something else...Been all around the world. The Andromeda Strain is another great book.

My all time favorite though was Sphere. Very scary...

I would just like to know...other then the Jurassic park movies...why every movie they make out of one his books are duds...Congo,Timeline,Disclosure...All of them horrable movies

Thats true but did you ever see Congo? It was a mid 90s movie with mid 70s special effects.

I think my favourites of his are Airframe, Congo, and Andromeda Strain.

Now, if you want real page-turners, might I recomment Preston & Child? These guys wrote Relic (butchered for the movie - Hell, they left out the very best character!) Reliquary (sequel to relic,) Cabinet of Curiosities, Thunderhead, Mount Dragon, Riptide, Ice Limit, and a couple others I haven't read yet (like Brimstone - supposed to explain a lot more about FBI Special Agent Pendergast...)

Riptide is a very interesting rendition of the old Oak Island Money Pit legend (probably the single story with the most influence on getting me to learn to read...) which should be familiar to those of you who live "Down East." Cabinet of Curiosities is a serial murder mystery with a really good twist, and Mount Dragon is a bioscience thriller.

If you haven't already, give them a go sometime... Their full proper names are Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

My wife and I both love Chrichton and have read most of his work. But.......Prey? Sorry, I thought that book sucked. I just can't work up a sweat about a swarm of robotic gnats. I kept reading, waiting for something to come of it....and then the book ended.

wow, i got about 100 pages into and wondered what was going on, just a guy at home, although i still enjoyed reading it. then as it began to develop i couldnt put it down and finished it that night. i think it would make a great movie

Might be one of the better movies made out of his books but I didn't really care for that book as much as his other ones..Hes done alot better.

Eh, one of Chrichton's best angles is to give you the technical low-down on the mechanical/alien/animal antagonist, and then swing anthropomorphic, trying to humanize the enemy and give you a fix on your hero and your enemy, just so much more dramatic. I just couldn't relate to nano-gnats.

I was really big into him in the late 90s. I think Sphere, Andromeda Strain, and Congo were my favorites. But as I grew my preferences in writing changed. He is definately great but I stop reading modern fiction for the most part so I haven't read any of his newer offerings.

That's what he was trying for, but due to poor antagonist developement....they just seemed like killer nano-gnats to me.

Just my humble opinion. I love Chrichton's work, just not "Prey".

Try reading the NTSB reports. They're not nearly so eloquent, but you get ALL the details.
