Nice looking cage, how are you doing the area by the hatch? Are you going to gusset the corners?

In the hatch area, I'm going to run one straight down tube on a diagonal from the rear most nodes of the 'X' to the rear, over the frame. Then I'll run one from the rear of the hoop down to the same mount as the diagonal ones. I'll put gussets at the front corners, and I am going to tie the cage into the front and rear seatbelt mounts. Also, as my rock rails are welded to the frame section of the unibody, I'm tieing the floor mounts into thsoes as well.
Thanks for the props, Dan

Very Cool and you did it with the headliner in place!!
Nice seats, did you have any trouble mounting/fitting them. My stock '89 electric seats are getting a little worn out and I'm looking for options.

No problems mounting, just welded 2 pieces of 3/16 strap across where the original slider would mount to the seat, drilled 4 holes, and voila.

NICE ! JOB !
It's a good thing your fairly close & our XJs look to be identical inside.. Hmmmmm. should be easier to duplicate.....hint .. hint..
I was about 5 pictures in when I finally noticed the M.C. seats.
It looks good, are you gonna reproduce it ?
Desert Hot Springs...... the one N. of Palm Springs? or another

DHS?? I'm from Yucaipa. Oh, this pics in the photo album? Yeah, the one north of palm springs, kind of parallel to I10 between Palm Dr. and Thousand Palms. Great spot! Everything from JV rocks, to sand dunes, to mud hills like truck haven hills.

http://www.sb-host.com/imagehost/data/6015/16xj_cage_2-med.jpg?5131 how hard was it to do this without "burning" the headliner?

I welded the complete halo out of the rig, and all of the legs are just tacked into place. There should be enough room around the tubes (since they will be welded on the lower portion of the halo)
to get the TIG welder in there. The TIG doesn't throw sparks like a MIG welder. Some thin sheet metal sheilds against the headliner, welding blanket over the dash and carpet, and it should be good to go. Still have the back half to finish, and the mounts under the XJ and it will get welded up.

Thanks guys. It's a syncrowave 250, with a water cooler. The cage still needs a few finishing touches, and I need to figure out how I'm gonna get paint on that thing. My attention has been diverted a little due to a bad head gasket. I hate dealing with this kind of BS when I have toys to build! I had to order the Banks torque tube header just to make myself feel better about pulling the head.
