Is there any quick way to tell the difference between a Dana 35 and a Chrysler 8.25" rear? Markings, etc?

The d 35 is just oval housing and cover the 8.25 is oval cover and flat lip on the bottom of the housing for around 4" or 5"

read the tag that is bolted on with the diffcover bolts..also so C8.25 has 3 inch tubes and the dana 35 has like 2.5in or 2.7's tubes i believe, basically the 8.25 will look beefier..HTh

If you take a hubcap off, you can also tell by the indentations on the ends of the axles. The D35 (and 44) have an indentation sort of like an hourglass or figure eight. The 8.25 has what I would describe as a rectangle with bulging ends, not pinched in the middle like the Dana.
