long start on 99 classic???

ive heard of the older xj's with the renix system taking longer than average to start up. bu a buddy of mine has a 99 and it cranks just as long if not longer than an old jeep. sometimes he has to crank on it twice for it to start. what could be causing this???

Have him turn the key to the on position, count to 20, then turn to start. If it fires right up it is most likely the fuel pump repressurizing the system. Probably from a leaky anti-drain back valve on the fuel pump. He can either replace it or live with it....

is the fuel pump located in the tank like the ZJ's? if so i doubt he feels like dropping the tank to replace it.
