I am new to the board and I am starting to build my cherokee, I am trying to put new springs on the back, but I can not get any of the bolts undone on the front spring hangers or the top of the shackles in back. I know (or at least I think that I know) that they bolt directly into the unibody so it seems like cutting them would be a problem. I have tried an impact wrench, breaker-bar and soaking them several times with liquid wrench. I could really use some suggestions.

thanks

Sawz all. its about the only way. Cut the bolts out. The problem is not the nut they screw into. Its that the bolt seizes up on the spring bushing.

After you spend the time it will take to get them out remember to use anti-seize on EVERY bolt you put back in because it will happen again.

On one of my front leafs, the nut broke loose inside, so the bolt was just spinning. I cut a small hole through the bottom so I could get a wrench up there and hold it while my bud cranked on the break bar. If your not using a breaker bar or a "cheater" get one, I love mine!

I've got the same problem, had all parts "a part" cept the front spring eye bolt, would'nt even move with 2 ft breaker bar, and rear top shackle bolt, want to put 1 inch shackles on too.
Ran out of time this weekend so had to put everything back together to drive back and forth to the job.
Guess I'll try again during vacation.

I'm still stuck, tomarrow I will hit the bolts with a torch to heat them up, hopefully they will loosen up. That is the only thing that I can think of at this point.

Let me know if you get it worked out.

I'm thinking what I'll have to do on the front eyes iscut the spring off the bushing up (near where it starts to wrap round the bushing), then make anthor cut to get the metal spring eye off to just leave the bushing exsposed, then hack away with a cutting wheel on my angle grinder " if it turns fast enough"??, or use a razor blade or something similar to cut thru the rubber bushing to get to that DAMNED inner sleeve, I think thats what some folks posted they have done. The rear shackles top bolds at least moved a little for me.
