Steering Column Pivot Pins

Trying to fix the steering column on my 88 xj and am stuck at the pivot pins. In order to remove the column housing I need to remove two pivot pins and I'm not sure how. I've heard that jeep has a tool for this, but I was hoping I could get it done with out.

Wish i had known about this tool before. I gave up after lots of disassembly and not being able to get past the pivot points ,to get to the 4 tilt steering bolts. Had to search lots of junk yards to find a replacement column. Kicking myself!

I got the tool, and broke it off inside one of the pins within ten minutes. I had pulled it out far enough to get it with pliars but am trying to pull the second one without breaking another tool. Any suggestions on how to do this other than being really carefull.
