Novice with a question

I have a 89 4x4 short bed 4.0 automatic
there is this switch on the dash that says power and comfort. when i move it nothing happens.
What is it for and could I get it to work or is it better left alone?

I also notice that the light isn't working anymore.

The light on mine will only light up if I switch it to power before I start the Jeep and only if it's cold. I just leave it there all the time, and I only drive the Jeep to go wheeling (right now). If I could fix all of the issues that have me worried about day-to-day reliability, it'd become my DD

My switch used to light up and function, and one day it stopped doing both. There was a noticable difference in shifting before. I dunno if I have a loose wire under the dash or what, but i get nothing from it now.. I havent had time to pull it apart yet.
