I live in the north GA. mountains and was trying to get an idea of which tires have proven the best for you. So post up on whatever tire choice has been your favorite and has worked the best for you as well as what you think would be my best bet. I'm leaning towards a 35" Trxus MT, 35" Wrangler MTR, 36" Irok, or a 35" TSL. I'm gonna be doing about 70% street and 30% off road.......its gonna see georgia red clay, and georiga mud, slick rocks, moderate tellico, and a 20 minute commute a few times a week. So it needs to be a tire that will last ok on the street but perform well off road in any conditions. Thanks guys.

Wish I had a spare!
But I guess the other 4 MTR's tie for my favorite.

70/30 kinda says it all, for street MT's are not exactly a good choice. I've been running various AT's, Good Year wrangler AT's, Pirelli scorpion AT, Dunlop Rover AT's, BFG AT/KO's. Out of all of them the Pirelli's were the best overall in mud, dirt, sand and on rocks not to mention awesome on wet roads. I'd still be running the pirelli's if they were more available but Sears stopped carrying them and the local pirelli dealer wants wayyyyy to much per tire, ballpark that I remember was ~$150 each in 235 size. For me the BFG's are a good compromise for what I use them for. All three of ours run them, 1XJ and 2TJ's..

Well its really gonna be more like 50/50 and fairly difficult trails I really need something more aggressive than an AT because I've taken my sisters jeep with 31" Pirelli scorpions on the trails I've wanted to run and it just wasn't possible with the AT, they just didn't have what I needed. I'm really looking towards the IROK,MTR, or the Trxus I just don't know which one is the best overall for my needs. I greatly appreciate everyones opinions, I consider any information good useful information so keep em coming. Thanks.

Ive narrowed it down to BFG M/T or the Truxus M/T but i'm leaning more towards the Truxus cause od the price.

Hearsay but I've heard alot of people complain about them on the hiway when doing higher speeds for a sustained period. Shredding mostly.

I have the toyo open country mud terrain. 35 13.50s. Put over 3000 miles on them so far, they work as good as my old MTRs in Moab, and even better on the street. They dont even look worn with 3000 miles on them. I plan on getting them again.

Yeah I looked at the toyos but they just seemed too expensive.......I'm a nearly broke college student so money is somewhat limited. But I like the opinions definitely....especially the comparisons with other previously owned tires. Thanks.

I didn't see anyone mention ProComps... I have 35x12.5x15 MT's on my TJ, and they are great so far... The one quirk I heard about BFG's was wet weather traction, and the Pro Comps have siping (sp) on the center lugs to help with this. I have never had a problem with them.
I got my set of 5 on rims (rock crawler 15x8's), mounted, balanced, lugs, caps (make nice ash trays in the garage), and even air included ;) including shipped from 4 wheel parts for like $1068.
I also had a set of the metric 35's (315 75 16's) AT's on my F250 Powerstroke. They held up great on that. Good luck with your choice.

For street tires the BFG MTs cant be beat. As for the procomps, a few people I ride with have tried them and have not had very good luck with them. Come to think of it, I don't remember going riding once and not seeing one of them cut. Maybe just pour driving?

I vote for the Trxus. Very good in mud. Ran several trails in Tellico last year with no problems. Gripped really good in Moab. In approx. 40K I've only had 1 problem with 1 tire, a nail. Ran 75mph from Ill. to Utah, no problem. Averaged 70mph for Ill. to N.C. with 5 people & luggage with no problems. HTH. JIM.

DO NOT GO WITH MTR'S! Went wheelin with a guy yesterday and he had 37" MTR's on his sprung over YJ and he had a lot of trouble. I live in Greenville, SC and was wheelin there and he had the hardest time going from a creek, to mud, to rocks (litarilly in a row). From what he was sayin he really missed his swampers but you probably aren't running 37's so you still may want em. But I would suggest BFG MT's or TRXUS MT.

Goodyear MT's!! Read some reviews on TireRack. I feel if you purchase a top brand MT tire then it comes down to splitting hairs and personal opinion. I am a Goodyear and Bridgestone fan.

I like the BFG MT's and also the TSL LTB's in the 33-13.5 or the 34-10.5. Depends on how wide you want to be. I would choose the 33-13.5 LTB's for the price but the BFG tires last longer on the road. I have seen Goodyear MTR's in 31-10.5 up to 37-12.5 and They were on xj's, tj's, full size bronco's and f-150's and did not like the performance of them at all. I live in Norttheast Wisconsin and the mud and trails that we go on the MTR's get stuck all the time with six or eight cylinder engines. I use 31-10.5 BFG radial MT's on my 85 wagoneer with a fresh 2.5 inline four that I am happy with the performance on and off the road.

Well I am not sure about that, but I have the Trxus MT's, 33'ers and I have made four trips from Lake George, NY to Gainesville, FL on them, driving 12+ hours a day at 70-85mph. And I have never had any issues. They have 45K on them now and probably another 15K easily, but I rotate and check the pressure like its my job. They only issue I have had so far is I found a screw in the thread, between the blocks the other day. It actually looked like somebody screwed it directly into the tire. But after I took out the screw, even with no plug, no air leaked out, shrugs, but if that say something about the construction of the trxus MT, I don't know what does. They are a great tire at a great price. If you search, you'll find my testemonies on the preformance of this tire on ice, snow, rocks, paragon and on the street.

The best riding wheeling and over all quiet smooth driving tire is Yokohama geolander at +II. I have driven on BFG MT, super swamper trexus, BFG AT, Mckey thompson Baja belted radial, road tires and several other cheaper brands. Nothing even comes close to the comfort and performance of the geolander at. Just my 2 bits (thats a quarter) JOE

in Georgia with mud and rocks I'd go with the SS IROK. If I was going to be doing mostly Moab then the tire that worked really well for me was the BFG MTs. They are really sticky in the red rock. The IROK works a bit better in the mud since the lugs are bigger. Not quite so well in the "slickrock" of Moab. Currently I'm running the 36" IROK here in Tennessee.

Bias Iroks, I was running at 5 psi w/o beadlocks. I folded one over the rim while accelerating up a jagged rock. I thought it would have been shredded but it just went back to its original shape like nothing happened. Now I run 7lbs. MTR's are only good on slick rock but I guess a street tire is good on slick rock since its like sandpaper when dry. Otherwise MTR's suck. And yes Ive had em.

i've gotta give one to MT/R's. i've had mine for about 6000 miles and they are hardly showing any wear. they are 235/75's and have the center lugs siped.
these are the best mud tires i've ever owned, also the smallest size and lightest vehicle as well, so that might be an issue. they pull like i'm being yanked and have yet to be scared to go anywhere. course, i know it's limits w/no lift or LSD's.
even this winter we've had some hellacious snowstorms and actually got to play in every one of'em and these tires were just incredible. even braking was WAY better than expected. taking off from a deadstop in snow or rain sucks, they will spin just about forever in 2wd..
i would buy another set. kinda curious what they'd do in a bigger size and on my Ramcharger.

My Experience:
BFG MTs: not bad in the mud, but harder compound sucks in the rain. if you have a wide tire it sucks in the snow. Does have great wear.
BFG A/Ts: softer compound than MT. great in the rain. pretty good in the dirt, mud. great wear.
Pro Comp MTs: soft compound. bad wear. great in mud, rock. wide tires suck in snow at higher speeds. a little better than the BFG MTs in the rain(softer compound)
:dunno: my 2 cents + tax
