well i am pretty clueless right now and a little scared my life is over... well I was driving and I needed to get onto the street so I hit the gas and i hear a bang sound.... and im thinking o crap... so i pull over stop the cherokee look around to see what it could be and i dont see anything. Then i strt it back up and start going and i notice at around 2k+ rpms some major vibrations... what could these be?

i had some majot vibes that ending up being up caused by loose tranny bolts.

I would check:
1. tranny to engine bolts
2. flexplate bolts
3. engine/tranny mounts

When yo twist your drive shft is there movement inside the ujoint or is the yoke on the rear end moving. If its the rear end you could have a bad pinion bearing

If you have it in neutral with the vehicle sitting on the ground and the driveshaft turns, you have some problems. Either u-joints or the rear end gears.

if only the drive shaft turned and not the yoke it is u-joints if yoke turned also, better look at the ring and pinion...maybe inside t-case? not sure on that one.. anyone else have an idea on the t-case?

I fixed the vibes which ended up being my yoke after I jcked the rear end up I coudl tell but now when I am either hitting the gas from a complete stop or when i downshift... theres a pretty loud click like something is snapping any idea what it is?

i'm not real sure on this... but did you torque the nut that holds the yoke on? maybe it is to loose or to tight? i do know that if you over torque it that it will wear out the pinion bearing pretty quick.... maybe if it is to loose it's letting to much slack in the ring and pinion... someone correct me if i am wrong....

I think it is something other then the yoke because before it was fixed I was checking for the problem and i would hear the noise if i hit the gas

maybe leaf springs? brakes? where t-case bushing where it bolts to x-member letting all your drive line twist? thats all i can think of....

Ill have to check it out... the only thing that gets me is its happens only from a complete stop if i step on it... if i do it from like 5+ its fine.... or when i shift it into 1-2 on my auto... it downshifts to first at 25 and it does it pretty loud then

Question: did these symptoms start after you lifted the XJ? How much lift? Did you install an SYE?

It sounds like when I lifted my XJ and took it for a test ride before I installed the SYE and driveshaft.

all this happened the other day when i hit the gas to get out in front of someone and a bang came from my driveline... ended up being the yoke, got all the vibes away but took it out to make sure everything fine and i step on the gas and the loud crack happens... but never had noise, vibes, or any driveline problems what so ever before the day that i stepped on the gas and messed up my yoke.... i dont have an sye but I never really noticed bad vibes

Did you check all your mounts (tranny, engine) make sure they are tight and not broke. Check driveshaft, rear leafs, u-bolts, check all bellhousing bolts. Go through all things and make sure everything is tight and the way it is supposed to be.
