leaf spring eye, stay shut

Are there any tricks to keep the eye on a non-military wrap leaf spring from opening?

Would just a few small tack welds be alright and not compromise the spring steel integrity?

I don't think your welds would last 1 trail run. The springs will flex & twist = cracked & broken welds in no time.
