Help, I'm upgrading the alt/batt cables and now when I try reconnecting it shorts!

I simply replaced the 6 ga wiring with 2 ga and now it shorts when I connect power to the alt or car power and it's regardless of if it's grounded to the frame or engine block... the sun's going down and I have important things to do tomorrow. HELP!

Define short. BIG SNAPPING sparks? IF so, are you hooking them up backwards? Key on?

I put the stupid battery in backwards!!

That was going to be my question/suggestion ( battery, not phisics) LOL
