ok
I'm thinking I should rotate my tires every 3K or so. They are BFG MTs at 32". When they wear out, I will probably go to 33" tires, unless I lock my front d35.
I have 5 of these BFGs with the spare mounted on the same aftermarket wheel, balanced, etc.
So I wonder if I could add it into the rotation.
But then I got to thinking about how my AWD WRX worked, and how sensative the mechanics told me that system was to tread wear/tire pressure differences.
Then I got to thinking the XJ can't be that sensative, and mines not even AWD (I have the 231 T-case)
So is this a dumb question or what?
I just don't want to end up with four worn out tires and a brand new spare then decide to go up to 33s with a new 32 sitting there looking stupid.

If you have an automatic locker then the thread height difference might be an issue, but then on the other hand that's going to be the same issue if you end up with a new tire replacing a ripped one, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Why not? Your alternative is to have 5 worn tires? If you have 4 worn tires and a new 32, you can sell the 32 and apply the $ towards a spare 33.

Yeah, maybe that'd work out.
I knew I should have done some work rather than think about Jeep stuff. Always leads to dumb questions.

As an alternative to four worn tires and a newish fifth one, you can throw the fifth into the rotation and (barring casualties) you'll have a set of five that lasts 5/4 as long as the set of four...

You cut those fenders yet wes? Your tires would wouldn't wear down as much if the sheetmetal wasn't rubbing on the turns :p lol

Not a dumb question in my mind. Why, even if you were keeping the same size tires, would you want a 2 ,3 or 4 year old unused spare. At this time that tire is becoming questionable to be used for much longer.
My buddy has the same situation, 5 same tires and rims, and he rotates all 5.
