Sure it weakens the area a bit, but unless you have already beefed the snot out of your axle you will tear the control arm brackets in half long before the cutting will matter at all.

No, it doesn't weaken it at all. The only thing that's bolted to it is the shocks, and that factory mount is WAY beefier than the tabs that are regularly used in fabricating custom axles and suspensions. You can't cut enough off of that thing to cause yourself a problem, so cut away. Most of us who have been around here for awhile have cut a bunch off of that thing.
