They're really going to do it. They're going to build that ugly piece of mutated XJ genes.

I wish they would, but with recent gas prices, the elimination of the > 6000# tax write off, and the resulting drop in H2 sales i don't see it making production. It was was my understanding that it was intented to go after the H2 sales and offer better offroad ability at a cheaper price.

The Commander looks like an updated Cherokee. Does anyone have actual specs on how big it is?

I read the whole article on it the other day, just wish I new where it was.
but some specs IIRC are 109"wb, seven seater, 3 options for AWD, possibly 3 engine options.not that those are specs, but, some info.
Here it is

Yes, a Suburban in your eye would definitely hurt.
Seriously though, better than a Suburban at what? Please clarify your statement. I happen to love all my Jeeps & my Suburban equally.

I when i think suv i think suburban... thats all. No offence intended. I understand how some need to be able to carry there 6 wee ones and a trailer but around here the big suvs are taking over. Im more ofjeep or car kinda guy.

Its just that everyone is on the extreme soccer mom rigs these days....its a shame that jeep has given into this. I agree; the rescue would have been more "Jeep-like", with a built-in winch?! Thats freakin awesome!!

You must not have a jeep you need to tow. I have been going back and forth on the whole Sub vs. truck thing.....Finaly settled on a truck. At least I can throw a camper in the back.

I guess it just has to do with me being a Mopar guy. Maybee I'll put a 3rd row of seats in my Grand Wagoneer when I get kids.

that thing is hideous. but at least it shows that Diamler is committed in keeping the Jeep name around.. as the models were dwindling and they started to become rebaged Dodges.. I was getting nervous. If nothing else it will bring others into the Jeep brand, weather we want them or not.. who knows, it could be a good thing.. if nothing else we can rag on Jeep Commanders instead of H2's.... Commander Rescue? sounds like a new bumper sticker to me..

Actually...I am a HUGE mopar guy too...Hence why I am buying a dodge truck.
Always wondered though why dodge was too stupid to make a suburban-excursion type vehilce....I would buy one in a second if they did.

The GW wasn't even a Mopar product. If there was a Cummins equipped Dodge product that could compete with the Suburban then I would have considered one. The Excursion was way outta my price range and I wanted a diesel full size SUV. K2500 Suburban it was, and I've been very pleased with it. It never leaves pavement and is much better for road trips than any of my Jeeps. Everything has its place, comparing it to a XJ or a Commander is silly.

that sounds like a new england thing more than a mopar thing... (family is from there..)...
As far as kids and towing.. that might make me become a ford guy.. I really like the idea of a Diesel Excursion...

Durango, as a mid-size, competes w/ the Explorer & Trailblazer. DC missed the boat on full size & super size SUV's.

Mines a 90. So its kinda sorta a Mopar product. The 89-91's production was overviewed by crysler and the quality was a alot better those years. Anyways if I was ever to do a engine swap in my XJ it would be a AMC or Crysler V-8

Well, what I was trying to get across was id rather stay loyal to jeep and I dont like big cars/suv (excluding a lifted one). I didnt mean to step on all of you suburban owners toes. There not very capable off road and on, but they can pull and haul more than my little xj. So theres a trade off. Its just my opinion.

Just define capable is all I ask. I'd never take my bus rock-crawling, but I'd sooner drive it cross-country than even my wife's stock '01 XJ Limited, let alone any of my other modified ones.

If I really needed a tow rig I'd buy a quad cab ram with a Cummins. (Unless I can find a cheap used Cummins to through into my Waggy.)

But the overall design of the vehicle is AMC (or Kaiser maybe) all the way. It's no more Mopar than my '87 or '89 MJ's.

It's definetly Kaiser if you look behind the grill you can see the headlight holes from the old J-trucks

DC said a few months ago that they were kicking out 3 new Jeep models in the next couple years. I am assuming that means the Commander, the 4-door Wrangler... and??? I dunno... I hope they don't consider the Dodge Libby #3...
I want a full size Jeep pick-up...

I saw TWO Gladiators today on Rt 209 in broadheadsville headed south on a new car delivery truck with a couple of TJ's, KJ's and a grand. One was silver the other was a metal flake green color. Have no idea where they were headed out here in semi rural PA...

Could have been headed out from the NVG plant in Syracuse, NY. I remember seeing TJ's up there in the parking lot for testing, before they came out.
