Starting problem

Last night I was driving home and the battery light came on. I pulled over popped the hood and wiggled the cables to see if anything was loose. Well I started it back up and it acted like it wanted to die but then when back to idleing. It did the same this this morning. Starts up but shudders around 250 rpms then goes up to about 750 rpms. Never did this before. Its a 96 XJ.

So how's your battery? How old is it, and are the battery and ground connections clean and intact? There's a braided ground strap that connects the back of the head to the firewall...I know it's not near the battery per se, but it's still essential. Check those and clean the connections and see how it's doing.

Also check the connections to the alternator
