View Full Version : Problems with going to 4.5" of lift?

Hey I am currently at 3 inches of lift and would like to go up to 4.5". I still have the stock controll arms, driveshafts and trackbar. Will I be able to put spacers in the front and longer shackles in the rear without too many problems. I have TJ flares and stock sized tires still ( the 33's will come after the extra lift). Would there be any problems with my stock LCA's at 4.5" untill I can fab some? I think I will relocate my trackbar hole like GOJEEP did. Does this sound workable? Also, how long should I make the LCA's and does anybody have a write-up on makeing them?
-Thanks in Advance for tolerating my rambling and any input

on Jeepin i've seen this a couple times as of late..

heres a link to one that i found by doin a search..

33s might push the limits of even trimmed fenders w/ tj flares (not sure) but exteded bump-stops might be needed..

i'm also lookin into the same sorta thing, so any info you could pass my way on yer findings would be greatly appreciated..

I don't see any trouble with running 33's and a 4.5" lift. With TJ flares most of your trimming should be taken care of.

The big problem I see is that you really need an adjustable trackbar and I really do recomend you wait until you can also put the longer LCA's on as well. Your asking for DeathWobble, if this is a daily driver, I say wait until you can put all the required parts on before you add lift.

Dunno DW is subjective, but for 33"/4.5" with stock control arms:

In front:

An adjustable TB is good.

bend the seams on the inner fenderwells flush / cut the rear part of the lower shock mount brackets to clear the LCAs The fenderwells will be bumpstops for the 33" but no worrys if it is smooth.

Add extended brake hoses ('straightened' YJ lines worked for me) and route (tune) the hoses to NOT get pinched between the tire and anything... wrap braided SS lines in tubing to avoid chafe failure

I hammered the inner seem smooth, so Im not worried about that. My brake lines are stock but bent strait and relocated 3 inches farther down. I think I will make some LCA's before I install the extra lift. Does anyone have any advice on makeing controll arms( length, bushings, material)?

for the lower control arms, they are in a slotted hole. Make some shims and you will be able to push the axle forward at least another 1/4 - 1/2 inch. It should work if your going to be on the cheap. Just put shims behind that hole thing on the frame mount of the lower control arms to move the hole as far forward as it will go.

This chart may help but it really doesnt account for the vehicle and tire size. There is no way you can realistically run them ,they are based on math only w/o taking anything else into consideration!!!!!
