I have a 88 XJ and I was wondering if I had a vacuum axle disconnect? Or how I could tell. It also idles kinda rough could that be because i dont have a vacuum canister?

Yes, you should have an axle disconect. Look for it mounted on the axle. I wish I had a picture to show you what it looks like. I am sure some one here has a picture to let you know what it looks like.

You can recognize the vacuum disconnect as a "fat spot" on the axle on the passenger side. I have an '88 with one...and an '89 without it.

If the Jeep has a selectrac(full time mode) t-case, then no disconnect. Otherwise it should have one. While not having the vacuum canister can cause some problems, rough idle is not one of them. High idle maybe if the line is not sealed off.
