View Full Version : Organizing for Paragon on July 13th & 14th

Howdy all, finally got on here, so I figure this is the place to start organizing the trip to Paragon for those not able to make the Tellico run. I've already got Stroker, Magoo117, Lawn Cher', Gary92XJ, OLIVE and Nick96. Anyone else interested? I'll be there with Bob Lester so that's a few more. If this gets going big enough, we could probably think about having a BBQ and camping together for multi-day wheelin.

I'll supply compressed air! I should have a reg for my tank by then hmm 80 cubes of air oooh yeah.

I know of other places to camp too, and it's not that much further away than the one we stayed at last time. We'd have to air up to get there though since the way there is on Rt93 which is a fairly busy highway. I'll check for more too. I'll check my phone books. What do ya say?

STROKER
June 4th, 2002, 14:37
Let's just go already and figure things out later.... :D . Seriously tho it sounds good so far.

Skorpyo
June 4th, 2002, 14:41
$20 a person a night was a bit steep...maybe just me, but for 3 people for 2 nights that $120 and paragon's already expensive enough for a weekend of wheelin. I'd love to be able to camp as close and maybe have less of a backwoods trip to the campground. I'm looking for convenience rather than seclusion. Anyone got any suggestions?

Lightning
June 4th, 2002, 14:45
like the idea of a cheap convenient campground. I havent been to Paragon yet so i'll need directions. Is this Bobster's first trip with the new lift?

MattBlackXJ
June 4th, 2002, 16:02
Wasn't it only $10 per night? Or was that just for the group site. May be. There is another campground in the area, but it is my understanding that they DO NOT allow wrenching on the vehicles. So you don't really have very many options.

June 4th, 2002, 16:39
Count me in for the run!! need anyone else to help? I will be out of school by then.... hehe
~Joe~

Lawn Cher'
June 4th, 2002, 18:26
I'll bring the trailer, we should definitely BBQ at least one evening.

On 2nd thought, maybe I'll put all the kitchen supplies in the MJ and use it to tow the XJ there so i don't get stranded again. Much better idea!

Olive
June 4th, 2002, 21:36
I'll call one in nescopeck. It's not that awful far from Route 93 and I can ask if they'd allow us to wrench if we need. Hell my friend has a garage close by so I could ask him for garage space he might even come for the ride as a passenger. I'll call them tomorrow.

The campground is called Moyer's Grove. Now unless anyone else can come up just some random wooded area that allows free roaming(which would be cheapest out of all) that'd be great we can set up camp there only we'd be SOL for that wonderful thing called electricity. I'll ask about group rates, repairs and other things. Hmm there is also another place near by named Paradise Campground but there was a double murder there a few years back so we might want to keep away from there.

Edit: Looks like I will only be able to attend this shindig on the 13th my dad scheduled my graduation party(jeep fundraiser) on, of course, the 14th. Grrrrrr! Oh well I'll just have to keep thinking about that milemarker winch I want so badly.

STROKER
June 5th, 2002, 14:24
I thought it was $10/15 a night i think thats relatively cheap better then a hotel but hey whatever. So what is this little shinding gonna be called any way NAC-FEST Jr....

Skorpyo
June 5th, 2002, 15:09
a name....hmmmm...well, since it's not an official event, lets stray away from any thing NAXJA related and just go with something like Skorpyon Run :D . Can't wait to hit that hill again, but this time with a lil more lift and leverage with a front locker.

Eagle
June 5th, 2002, 18:51
I might make it down IF I have everything on Old Faithful ready for Colorado, but I'd probably not drive -- might ride with someone else. I won't know for sure until I see how much I can get done before then.

Hey Eagle.....Sig is working now eh? That is the Text I put in for ya....you can modify it to suit your needs.

June 5th, 2002, 22:05
I'm at least interested. My parents are planning a trip to NC to visit some friends. I might have to dog sit, and I don't think the little guy would be too happy riding along in his old age.

Am I understanding you that Red Ridge upped the rates? Last time I was out there was in October, and I don't think I paid more than $10 for the night. $20 seems a little steep for a patch of grass to pitch a tent on and a bathroom to me.

Olive
June 6th, 2002, 09:13
Upon looking through the phone books today I can't seem to get a phone number for Moyer's Grove campground. I'll call the place were people were killed to maybe it'll be as close to free as possible because of the murders 4 years ago. Now would anyone seriously have a problem staying at the site with the murders if they will accomodate us better than Moyers? That's if we even go to one of those 2. You can call the Red Ridge again and ask them. I'll check my 2 places out and me and Skorpyo can talk about the camping situation since I'm the local spy type guy.

Im in.

This will be better in my opinion.
No Naxja Fee.

I just hope everyone can make it out there, plus more.

And I agree with Olive, we should find some other place to camp, that would be less expensive.

Skorpyo, How much lift will you have?
I think with some step by step crawling and evaluating we can get you up that stupid hill.

Olive, Did you get your noslip locker in?

We could go on a monthly ride with other wheelers...
I'd go tommorow.

June 7th, 2002, 11:30
I'll see what I can do about camping arrangements. I'll be out of the country starting sunday and I'll be getting back sunday so I can continue plans for camping after then.

I'm waiting on Nick96 to send me his instruction booklet for the no slip. I don't want to put a spring in the wrong place and have to do it all over again. Once he sends them I'll be installing the damn thing finally.

Edit:

I just tought to look at a state map for state parks. There is one called Hickory Run. They offer modern/primitive/electrical hook up camping. They have 381 sites to choose from. It's about 20-25 miles away from Hazleton. There are a number of routes to take. Feel free to look into it here.

http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/hickory.htm

If I'm reading correctly it would cost us $26 total for the night.

It's a pretty place and just up the road from me. You'll need to check on reservations, they fill up pretty fast, I used to camp there alot when I used the MC for touring. Paragon also has several camping areas, I've used a couple with Blue Mountain Jeep but I don't know what the rules are for qualifying to use them, maybe give Brian Moyer a shout or Heather from BMJA, she was one of the organizers from the last campout. If anyone gets up here early on Friday feel free to drop by, email me for my phone number and directions, I'll make sure the grill has a full tank and pick up some burgers, dogs, beverages and stuff.

My life sucks. So yesterday i went to work on my jeep to put my stock pitman arm back on, to correct my angles for my steering. So when i was all done i want to take it on a little test drive and thats when it went all down hill. when i was climbing this little hill my front driveshaft u-joint went. then when i was going back i came out onto the road and gave it some gas and then i heard bang. not a good bang, so i didnt crack the case of the rear yet but i think i took a tooth off the ring gear, but hopefully i just striped the teeth on the locker. oh yea so im going to work on it today if there is nothing left to do, but i will be there for this trip i dont care if i have to weld my rear together i will be on m-extnsion and pick your poisoin. dam this sucks.

Pete, sorry about the bad luck... sounds like it never ends for you, eh? BTW, I may need my welder back soon.

Nice handle, Nick.

I'm all for camping at Red Ridge... I figure the more we go there, the better they get to know us nice gents, the more receptive they are to us ripping up their grass and disturbing the neighbors. The group site is only $10 per night.

Nick,

You're welcome to stay at my house. I can't fit many though, unless we want to break out tents in the back yard lol. The police might not like since they are just behind my house.

antiwhine: Bermuda was awesome too bad they have such horrible gas prices, I only saw one jeep and it was a TJ with low profile tires and like 20" wheels. Wish it would have parked so I could take a picture. The biggest tires down there are like the size of most donut spares in the US. Makes my 31s look huge that's for sure. Ooh and Ford Focus well it looks like a full size family sedan there. I do have thirteen cuban cigars though!

I wouldn't want to barge in with 3 others at your house. I still have quite a bit of things I want to do to my jeep until the trip, but I'll be ready. Anyone want to help me make a rear tire/hi-lift carrier to mount on my tomken bumper? I need a good, nearby source for metal as well. Bring her with. I might have a woman with me. Now what's more romantic than sitting around a camp fire while conversing about the day's breakage and stucks? If she doesn't enjoy that you got the wrong girl.

I'll definitly have a guest, and they won't be scared because my brakes are going to REALLY work this time.

Damn, I won't be able to come along.
I have an extra finance class on Sunday, and Im going to the Tom Petty concert at Montage on Saturday.

I'd like to come down Saturday morning and take a bunch on pictures, but Im not sure.

Is Harrys open saturdays? Id like to pull a d30 and a d44 (or d35) from a 4 banger with a tow package, with 4:10's.

Make sure you guys take lots of pictures and video if possible.
For us that arent goin to make it.

Have fun guys.

We should have another club meet at Pap before the summer is over.
later

Maybe I'll go camping friday night with everyone too. Hmm.....

John Harry's is open on saturday but only until 4:00. I was just there last saturday when I got my double brake booster(which is getting installed right now). Anyhow they don't have and D44s, and you definitly wouldn't find one behind a 2.5 4 popper XJ. They only came in 4.0s. You'll have to go with a D35 that has 4.10s, and may I suggest you get a non-clip axle? If you do I'll give you a spare set of shafts for real cheap. I have mine to part out.

Howdy all, I've counted anywhere from 10-17 trucks on this trip. I figure groups of 5-7 at the most. We'll try and divide into moderate and Hardcore since there don't seem to be any stockers coming along.

Lets all meet at the staging area at 8am so that we can beat the crowd out. Paragon charges $35 per day, and $5 per passenger, if you don't have an orange marker flag, you can get one for $2.

I'll be arriving at Red Ridge Campground around 7:00ish tonight, we can pick groups and leaders then, I'm guessing that we'll have 2-3 groups, so 2-3 leaders. If Andy or JohnB would like to volunteer for the Hardcore group, that would be great :D and if we can find a volunteer to lead the Moderate group, we should be set.

I beleive the BBQ will be around 5ish on Saturday, and I'd like to see if we can get a group or two for Sunday Wheeling.

Can't wait to see everyone there!

Great thanks for the heads up on the D44.
I was going to run around and try to find one there, but a D35 would do the job, cause Im only going to 33 inch tires.

Now I just need to find a 4 banger to get the 4:10's.

So you'll be running your no-slip for the first time in the D44 eh?

You guys have fun, AND take A LOT of pictures/video. :)

Skorp: Did you lift any higher for that obstacle you wanna eat?

Someone posted on Blue Mountain's (www.bmja.org) message board that Harry's had 5 XJ D44's last week and wanted $50 each for them.

This sounds like a fairy tale to me, can anyone confirm this, if so I'd like to get one for a spare.

Andy in Pa.
July 12th, 2002, 16:09
Yeah, at that price I could use a spare too!!

I can't make it up to Paragon this weekend. I ran out of time in getting the tires changed and a few other odds and ends I wanted to get done before coming up. Besides, I was wheeling all weekend last weekend up in N. Pa. and want to spend a weekend at home for a change.

I'll catch up with you guys next time,

Andy

Couldn't tell you whether that $50 a piece D44 thing is a fairy tail or not. I got mine for $40 and pulled it myself. I don't believe it.

On a side note. I will not be attending tomorrow. When I went to check my oil tonight and fill my washer bottle I noticed a blown fuse in my flexalite fan. Well I put anohter fuse back in, and the fan started to spin. Only it spun with only 4 blades on it somehow. However something similar happened to my last one(maybe it's a sign to get rid of it), and I might have a spare fan set. I really hope I still have it someplace.

Edit: Forget all that crap about me not going. I found my spare fan, and it's on, and it works. Yippie. Soooooo I'll be there in the morning. I'll show you guys what my fan blade looks like right now lol. I have no idea how it lost 6!!! blades.

Okay my 2 blades from flexalite must have been defective or something! This one lasted 2 blocks. There is no knicks in the blades that broke off(being evidence that something hit them). There is no plastic rubbed on the edges indicating they were really close to something and rubbing. I'm sick and tired of this goddamn fan. I need to figure out some better mounting methods maybe. Who knows?

Count me out.
