Gonna suit up, leave the .45 at home, and hit the city (gasp). Can anyone recommend (actual 1st hand experiance please) a place for dinner that meets the subject lines requirments. A nice view is always a plus. Money is an object, lets say under $300 for 2 people with wine. Gonna be staying downtown so would like to keep it in the loop.

Thanks in advance for all your helpfull suggestions.

Oh my gawd, this post could be as long as an issue of wine spectator......

I need more than that my man, its just to generalized.

I'll give you a tip though, the best restaurants in chicago don't really have a view.

However, the signature room is every city dwellers knee-jerk responce to "restaurant with a view".

otherwise, you could sneak into the metropolitan club (name dropping helps)

What kind of cuisine are you looking for?

also, I can point you to places that have a half-dozen tables up to a hundred. I can point you to a only-the-hipsters-are-here place, as well as a well-kept-secret place......

Oh, here's another idea for view....Riva out on Navy Pier, but its gotten way touristy with annoying suburb people and out-of-towners

Cuisine..steak! seafood, pasta...well kept secret is good, I am not really a "hipster". Been to Riva...I'll pass thanks, been to the Signature Room, was my 1st thoght...wife has never been there. Can I use your name at the Metro club? A view is secondary, not that big of a deal.

Thanks again,
Rev

Where I would go for the best damn bacon-wrapped, parmesean-crusted tree-trunk size filet mignon would be Wildfire. excellent.
Cornelia's on the n side is also awesome

napa valley grille is fun

Where i would go for excellent seafood, smallish, cozy, excellent quiet atmosphere, top notch, Atlantique on north clark.

Redfish is a good choice.....

ya know, i could go on and on, dining is one of my favorite city things to do, been to a zillion places....

to help you decide, you need to check out metromix's restaurant guide.

there are menus to help you narrow choices down, that's what Melinda uses when we're trying to decide where to go next.

check it out, and if you see something interesting, maybe I've been there and can give you a first hand report.

Tucci Benuchh in the mall at 900 North Michigan Ave. Its on the 6th floor...not much of a view but a very good place for great food. If you go get the apple crostada dessert....its amazing. The plus side is you're right on Michigan Ave. so you can do some shopping. Then walk a few blocks to the water tower and take her for a carriage ride. If you can afford it ask for the hour long ride, otherwise the 30 minute ride is still great. Maybe even take her up to the observation floor of the Hancock.

Ya know, this sounds just like a date I took a girl on for valentines day....and ya know what, she loved it. And by the way, there's a Victorias Secret right there too...maybe you (I mean she) would want to go shopping.

knife, good suggestion, but I have to comment on one fine point.

there are no "malls" in the city....there are stores and centers, but no "malls".

that is strictly a suburb phenomena, and all malls should be carpet bombed. Any unharmed mechandised should be collected from the crater and reallocated to chicago natives inside the city proper.

My mistake......... always thought that was Zappa.... according to IMDB, it's Tony M. Conde. Whoever that is. Still....... more than a couple of good cameos in there.

Beezil...You DA man!! Wildfire was excellent, great food, service, drinks, even the wife liked it!! The steak was the best I have had, better than Mortons, very good. The parmasion (sp) encrusted steak was not on the menu, but i asked for it and it was fantastic.

I humbaly bow to your superior resturant knowledge of the establishments in the city.

Ohh.....BTW.

i found a place in Downers that handles custom convertable tops for vehicles, and.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!
